Yet another international break is upon us, and whilst it might not be your favourite time of the year, there’s still value to be found.
We’re taking a look at Friday’s game, where Luc Holtz’ Luxembourg host Ilian Iliev’s Bulgaria side.
Both teams will have mixed feelings about their start to the Nations League season, with them occupying the bottom two spots, and only Bulgaria look like catching Belarus.
Luxembourg Predicted Line-up - Anthony Moris; Kevin D'Anzico, Seid Korac, Dirk Carlson; Laurent Jans, Mathias Olesen, Leandro Barreiro, Mica Pinto; Danel Sinani; Alessio Curci, Gerson Rodrigues
Luxembourg head into this game bottom of the group, occupying the relegation play-off spot.
They drew 1-1 last time out with Belarus, but that’s hardly an issue given how impressive Belarus have been so far.
Leandro Barreiro plays beyond his years, and his quality will be vital for Luxembourg.
Bulgaria Predicted Line-up - Dimitar Mitov; Viktor Popov, Zhivko Atanasov, Aleks Petkov, Fabian Nurnberger; Georgi Kostadinov, Valentin Antov; Kiril Despodov, Filip Krastev, Radoslav Kirilov; Aleksandr Kolev
Bulgaria have also disappointed so far, they’ll feel they should instead be challenging Northern Ireland for top spot.
Ironically, they lost 5-0 last time out to Northern Ireland, but that was thanks to a ridiculous attacking performance from their opponents.
Kiril Despodov will want to continue his goalscoring form from midfield.
These two sides have met six times since 2006. Of their meetings, Luxembourg have won none, and Bulgaria have won three.
Three matches between the two sides have resulted in a draw
12th October 2024 - Bulgaria 0-0 Luxembourg - Nations League
20th November 2022 - Luxembourg 0-0 Bulgaria - Friendly
10th October 2017 - Luxembourg 1-1 World Cup Qualifiers
6th September 2016 - Bulgaria 4-3 Luxembourg - World Cup Qualifiers
12th September 2007 - Bulgaria 3-0 Luxembourg - Euro Qualifiers
Bulgaria, despite currently underperforming, do have a much stronger side than their opponents.
They’ve dominated the head to head standings, and will add another win to their tally here.
Overall we think the best bet to place for this game would be Bulgaria to win, backed up by our research.
Odds of 7/4 on Ladbrokes mean that a £10 bet has the potential to return up to £27.50 in this match.
(odds subject to change)
Luxembourg 1-2 Bulgaria
It won’t be easy, but Bulgaria will get a win here.
At the same time, Scotland host Croate.
