This Monday’s A-League action sees Wellington Phoenix make the trip to face Macarthur FC at Campbelltown Sports Stadium. This is a huge match for the home side as they will not want to slip away from the top six qualification spots.
Macarthur FC have done well this season, scoring lots of goals across the 13 games they’ve played so far. They only recorded one loss over their last five games, drawing once and winning the three remaining games. Wellington Phoenix on the other hand have come into this game in poor form having won only once in their five most recent games. They have been leaky in defence, conceding nine goals in the time that they have only managed to put in four at the other end of the pitch. This Monday looks like it could see plenty of goals.
Formation: 4-3-3
Predicted Line-Up: Filip Kurto; Ivan Vujica, Oliver Jones, Dino Arslanagic, Kealey Adamson; Jake Hollman, Liam Rose, Luke Brattan; Marin Jakolis, Valère Germain, Jed Drew
Unlike their opponents, Macarthur FC have had a great season, finding themselves in the qualification places so early on into this season. After 13 games they sit in fifth place with six wins, four losses and three draws. Those matches have left them with 21 points, three points behind as high as third placed Melbourne City FC. In the goals for The Bulls has been wingers Marin Jakolis and Jed Drew. The pair of them have put up 11 and 10 goal contributions each this season, averaging just under either a goal or an assist a game. Not only them have been finding the back to the net as club captain Valère Germain has bagged himself six goals, sharing the Macarthur FC top scorer title this campaign with Drew. All three of these players have been brilliant since the first game of this year’s A-League and that should continue to make them difference makers for this match against a struggling Wellington Phoenix side this Monday.
Formation: 4-4-2
Predicted Line-Up: Joshua Oluwayemi; Lukas Kelly-Heald, Scott Wooton, Isaac Hughes, Matthew Sheridan; Sam Sutton, Kazuki Nagasawa, Paulo Retre, Corben Piper; Hideki Ishige, Kosta Barbarouses
Wellington Phoenix have not had an amazing start to the season, finding themselves four places from rock bottom of the A-League table. After 12 games they sit in 10th place with four wins, six losses and two draws. Those matches have left them with 14 points, three points behind ninth placed Central Coast Mariners but four points clear of 11th placed Newcastle Jets. Stepping up this season for The Nix has been striker Kosta Barbarouses. He has found the back of the net six times in the 12 games he’s featured in this season. His partner up top, Hideki Ishige has also provided six goal contributions but his have been split into two goals and four assists rather than all of them coming from putting his name on the scoresheet like Barbarouses. The travelling Wellington Phoenix fans will be hoping that they can be relied on once more and try and grab another goal in the attempt to beat a tough Macarthur FC this Monday.
The last five faceoffs have been split in the favour of Wellington Phoenix, winning four of the last five matches with Macarthur FC winning once. Current form would suggest that it would be difficult for Wellington to claim another victory this Monday given where they are in the A-League table compared to their opponents.
