This Wednesday’s Women’s UEFA Champions League game sees Barcelona Women make the trip to face Manchester City Women at the Joie Stadium. This result could have serious implications for both side’s Champions League campaign going forward since this is the very first match of the group.
Both teams have started their seasons off in the best way possible as they are top of the table in their respective leagues. It is still early days as City have only played three games in the WSL and Barcelona have only played five games in Liga F.
11 years since they last won the league, WSL title contenders Manchester City could be on their way to end that streak this season. They have finished the season in second for five out of the last seven campaigns but that could change as after three games, City sit in first place. A draw on opening day and then two subsequent wins has them on seven points. A big game to kick off the season against Arsenal Women ended 2-2, a good result for them. Back to back wins versus Brighton Women and West Ham Women respectively and a continuation from last season has them on a six game unbeaten streak.
City have found the back of the net five times thanks to five different scorers. Jess Park, Khadjia Shaw, Lauren Hemp, Mary Fowler and new signing Vivianne Miedema all getting on the score sheet for them. These women are some of the very best in the Women’s Super League so there is no reason for them not to convert that into the Champions League as well.
Five games into the 2024/24 Liga F season and Barcelona Women sit comfortable at the top of the table with a five match winning streak. Those five wins has left them with 15 points, level with both Real Madrid Women and Atlético Madrid Women. What separates Barca from those two sides is their goal difference, having recorded 25 goals and only conceding 2. Striker Ewa Pajor contributing to six of those goals.
The Catalan club is no stranger to the UEFA Women’s Champions League having won the competition three times. They have the possibility of doing the ‘three-peat’ this season as they were victors in the last two seasons in a row. Barcelona’s previous two domestic games have ended up with them totalling 18 goals so if they can continue that form into this match, it could well be an onslaught for Manchester City.
These sides have only faced each other on two previous occasions, and it was in this competition. Back in the 2020/21 edition, they were drawn in the Quarter-Final stage. Barca won the first leg and City won the second however by way of aggregate scores, Barcelona progressed through to the next stage.

For that reason, our betting experts have gone with Barcelona Women To Win as our best value tip for this game.

(odds subject to change)
Manchester City Women 1-3 Barcelona Women
Barcelona are just too good for Man City, especially with the form that their attack is in. We can see a fair few goals in this fixture with maybe a consolation goal for the English side.
