The first Le Classique of the France Ligue 1 season takes place on Sunday 27th October 2024 as Marseille host Paris Saint-Germain in what is sure to be an intriguing fixture.
Le Classique always excites with both teams always fighting for victory. This game will surely be no different with the potential to claim top spot in the league or close the gap at least being on the line this time around.
Marseille Predicted Lineup - Geronimo Rulli; Ulisses Garcia, Derek Cornelius, Leonardo Balerdi, Pol Lirola; Mason Greenwood, Adrien Rabiot, Amine Harit, Pierre-Emile Hojburg, Luis Henrique; Elye Wahi
Marseille currently sit third in the table after what has been an impressive start to the campaign under Roberto De Zerbi. They have picked up 17 points from eight games thus far.
Alongside this they have also scored the second most goals (21) and conceded the joint second least (8) as well. They are a very strong side.
A huge part of that has been former Manchester United man Mason Greenwood who has scored six goals in the league so far this season - this placing him second in the Ligue 1 scoring charts. Will he find the back of the net in this one as well?
Paris Saint-Germain Predicted Lineup - Gianluigi Donnarumma; Achraf Hakimi, Marquinhos, Willian Pacho, Nuno Mendes; Warren Zaire-Emery, Vitinha, Fabian Ruiz; Ousmane Dembele, Marco Asensio, Bradley Barcola
As expected PSG are top of the league right now. They got 20 points in eight games so far. However they are only top on goal difference with Monaco close behind them. Right now though they are unbeaten in the league.
Not only this but they have also scored more goals than any other side (25) as well as conceding the joint second least in the league (8). PSG are once again dominating - as they so often do.
However, they have only won one of their last four games proving to struggle - especially after midweek fixtures as they have seen this week. Could they struggle with tiredness again here?
This matchup has been played 107 times in both teams' histories.
It is PSG that holds the advantage with 50 wins. This to Marseille’s 34 wins. There have also been 23 draws.
In fact, Marseille have only won one of the last five games against PSG and haven’t beaten them in Ligue 1 since September 2020. Will that change here?
31st March 2024 - Marseille 0-2 PSG - French Ligue 1
24th September 2023 - PSG 4-0 Marseille - French Ligue 1
26th February 2023 - Marseille 0-3 PSG - French Ligue 1
8th February 2023 - Marseille 2-1 PSG - Coupe De France
16th October 2022 - PSG 1-0 Marseille - French Ligue 1
17th April 2022 - PSG 2-1 Marseille - French Ligue 1
Coming into this game, this one is sure to be close. Both teams are playing well and will struggle to get the better of the other.
However, considering PSG’s recent form and Marseille’s eagerness to close the gap on the top - and potentially go joint top in the table with a win - we can’t help but feel that the hosts can come away with three points here. Taking advantage of a tired PSG side.
Our team of professional tipping experts are backing Marseille To Win at odds of 11/4 in this game. These odds mean that £10 has the potential to return up to £37.50.
(Odds subject to change)
Marseille 2-1 PSG
Marseille will be keen to win and catch up to joint top PSG and AS Monaco. A win will do that. If they can take advantage of a PSG side on poor form and most likely tired from their mid week fixture the hosts could come away with three points here.
