After 14 matches, the A-League table is starting to take shape, and it looks as if there will be an interesting battle in the middle between quite a few teams. Two of these such sides are Melbourne Victory and Sydney FC, both of whom have underperformed to their high standards so far this season.
The start to Melbourne’s season wasn’t too bad however their last win came back on the 8th of December against Perth Glory who are second from bottom in the league. They have slid down to seventh in the table, of 13 teams, and now are in desperate need of a win. Last time out, they had the better chances against Adelaide United, but failed to keep the ball out of their own net, losing 3-2.
Sydney FC have had better luck lately, but they too lost their last game. They faced bottom side Brisbane Roar at home and lost 4-3, only recovering to make the scoreline less embarrassing in the last few minutes of the game. That result gave Brisbane their first win of the season and may just knock the confidence of the Sydney players slightly.
Melbourne Victory Predicted Lineup - Jack Duncan; Kasey Bos, Roderick, Brendan Hamill, Joshua Rawlins; Jordi Valadon, Ryan Teague; Daniel Arzani, Zinedine Machach, Clarismario Santos Rodrigues; Bruno Fornaroli
It seems as if Pep Guardiola’s famous 4-2-3-1 tactic has made its way to the other side of the world, as that is what Melbourne Victory’s manager Patrick Kisnorbo favours. However he might start trying something else soon, as Melbourne are without a win in their last five matches. Despite being quite a high scoring team in the league, their top scorer is Ryan Teague, a defensive midfielder, with three goals. There are six other players in the squad who have two each and five with one. While that does mean that they aren’t over reliant on one source of goals, it also means that they don’t have a natural goal scorer.
Sydney FC Predicted Lineup - Harrison Devenish-Meares; Joel King, Hayden Matthews, Rhyan Grant, Zac De Jesus; Leo Sena, Corey Hollman; Adrian Segecic, Anthony Caceres, Joe Lolley; Patryk Klimala
Like Melbourne Victory, Sydney FC favour a 4-2-3-1 formation, however theirs has been a lot more successful in recent weeks, picking up victories against Central Coast Mariners and Perth Glory. Former Nottingham Forest wideman Joe Lolley now plays for the Sydney based side and is the league’s top scorer with eight. He has also provided four assists this campaign. In just 62 league matches in Australia, he nearly has as many league goals already as he got with Forest.
This fixture in recent years has been highly competitive, as both teams have remained around the same level. There are some occasions when one side is completely blown out of the water by the other, but more often than not, results are quite close. There was a period, about six or seven years ago, when Sydney FC dominated Melbourne Victory, but that has become just a distant memory in the last few seasons.
28th Dec 2024 - Sydney FC 3-0 Melbourne Victory - A-League
26th Jan 2024 - Melbourne Victory 1-1 Sydney FC - A-League
16th Dec 2023 - Melbourne Victory 3-0 Sydney FC - A-League
21st Oct 2023 - Sydney FC 0-2 Melbourne Victory - A-League
4th Mar 2023 - Sydney FC 1-0 Melbourne Victory - A-League
This season, these two teams have produced a lot of goals. Sydney FC are the top goal scorers so far this season but that has come at a hefty price defensively, as they let in quite a few two. In their last matches, these two teams were involved in 12 goals, excellent for the neutral, but nail biting for their fans.
With all of this in mind, our team of professional experts have decided that the best tip for this game is for BTTS + Over 3.5 Goals. Odds of 27/20 on Quinnbet means that a £10 bet could see a potential return of £23.50.
