It’s the international break ladies and gentlemen, but that doesn’t mean we’re giving up on our expert tips, instead we’ve done our research on the remaining EFL fixtures.
We’re taking a look at Saturday’s fixture, where Scott Lindsey’s MK Dons take on Darren Moore’s Port Vale.
The two teams have had drastically different starts to the season, with Port Vale sat in sixth whilst MK Dons are in 14th.
However, MK Dons will be looking to turn it around after the appointment of Scott Lindsey.
MK Dons Predicted Line-up - Tom McGill; Jack Tucker, Luke Offord, Laurence Maguire; Aaron Nemane, Connor Lemonheigh-Evans, Liam Kelly, Joseph Tomlinson; Joe White, Alex Gilbey; Tommy Leigh
It’s pretty likely that Lindsey will revert back to the XI he deployed against Tranmere Rovers, after making 11 changes against Arsenal’s youth side.
They’re yet to lose under the former Crawley Town boss, but it will still take time for the players to adjust to his style of management and there may be hiccups along the way.
Liam Kelly and Laurence Maguire will be key, they’ve both played under Lindsey before and will have no quarrels doing the same here.
Port Vale Predicted Line-up - Connor Ripley; Kyle John, Jesse Debrah, Connor Hall; Brandon Cover, Ben Garrity, Ryan Croasdale, Jack Shorrock; Lorent Tolaj, Ronan Curtis; Ruari Paton
Port Vale will be chuffed with the way they’ve started the season, and Darren Moore has really got them playing. They’ve been solid at the back and clinical in attack, so they’ll cause real problems for MK Dons.
They impressively pulled off a 1-0 win over Notts County last time out, and Lorent Tolaj scored the decisive goal in that fixture, who’s to say they won’t do the same here.
The two teams have met 16 times since 2004. Of these fixtures, MK Dons have won five, and Port Vale have won six.
Five have resulted in a draw, which means Port Vale narrowly edge MK Dons.
5 matches have resulted in a draw.
4th March 2023 - Port Vale 1-0 MK Dons - League One
16th August 2022 - MK Dons 2-1 Port Vale - League One
9th November 2019 - MK Dons 0-1 Port Vale - FA Cup
22nd April 2019 MK Dons 1-1 Port Vale - League Two
2nd October 2018 - Port Vale 0-2 MK Dons - League Two
Whilst I’d expect MK Dons to start making progress toward the play-off positions soon, I think they might be taken aback by the quality Port Vale possess.
Port Vale defend well, whilst still having quality in the final third, along with also having the better h2h record in recent times.
We think overall the best value tip is Port Vale to win, backed up by our research.
Odds of 10/3 on PariMatch mean that a £10 bet has the potential to return up to £43.34 in this match.
(odds subject to change)
MK Dons 1-2 Port Vale
Port Vale’s impressive defence will be enough to secure victory over MK Dons.
Whilst both sides are looking for promotion to league one, we think Birmingham will walk the division above.
