This Friday’s Scottish Premiership action sees Kilmarnock make the trip to face Motherwell at Fir Park. This is a big match given that Kilmarnock currently reside in the relegation qualification places so they will be desperate to escape that come the end of the season, a win Friday would be a great start.
Motherwell come into this game in not the best form after two wins and three losses from their last five Scottish Premiership matches. Those two wins have come consecutively and in their most recent games however, potentially allowing them to carry that good momentum in this match on Friday. Kilmarnock did manage to earn themselves a win in that last game but until that game, that had been poor in defence. In their last five games alone, Kilmarnock have let in nine goals, including six in one match when they played Rangers a couple of weeks ago now. They will be hoping that this Friday night’s game against Motherwell will allow them to try and snatch a result in efforts to climb the table.
Formation: 3-5-1-1
Predicted Line-Up: Aston Oxborough; Shane Blaney, Liam Gordon, Dan Casey; Steve Seddon, Andy Halliday, Harry Paton, Lennon Miller, Marvin Kaleta; Tawanda Maswanhise; Apostolos Stamatelopoulos
Motherwell have had a great start to the season, finding themselves in the Championship Playoff places. After 16 games they sit in fourth place with eight wins, seven losses and one draw. Those matches have left them with 25 points, behind third place Rangers by seven points but ahead of fifth place Dundee United by just a single point. Creating and providing the goals for The Steelmen has been midfielders Lennon Miller and Tawanda Maswanhise as well as striker Apostolos Stamatelopoulos. Miller has amassed seven goal contributions, two more than his aforementioned teammates. All three of them could be the difference makers this Friday, the hope of slowly catching up to Rangers still on the forefront of their minds.
Formation: 3-4-3
Predicted Line-Up: Rory McCrorie; Corrie Ndaba, Stuart Findlay, Joe Wright; Brad Lyons, Lewis Mayo, Liam Polworth, Fraser Murray; Bruce Anderson, Marley Watkins, Bobby Wales
Kilmarnock have had a very average season heading into this match, currently finding themselves mid-table. After 17 games they sit in eighth place with four wins, eight losses and five draws. Those matches have left them with 17 points, but it is not all doom and gloom as they sit just two points behind Dundee FC who are in the position above them. Killie have struggled to find the back of the net domestically, part of the reason they are where they are. Achieving the second lowest goals tally with 18 goals in the Scottish Premiership. Contributing the most from that total has been both Matthew Kennedy and Bruce Anderson with five contributions each. Manager Derek McInnes looks to only start one of them however. It looks like he might lean more towards Anderson, leaving him with the responsibility to try to be the one that Kilmarnock can look to in attempts to swing this Friday’s match in their favour.
There have been 91 matches where these two teams have faced each other throughout history.
Surprisingly, neither side comes into this match holding an advantage over one another. Both Motherwell and Kilmarnock have achieved 37 wins when playing the other, leaving the remaining 17 fixtures ending in a draw.
Motherwell are a team that don’t frequent possession-based football, preferring a counter-attacking style which has clearly worked out for them sitting in fourth in the league. That does lead to chances for the opposition though as only one game from their last five has not ended without them conceding.
For that reason, our betting experts have gone with Motherwell To Win + Both Teams To Score as our best value tip for this game. Odds of 17/4 mean that a £10 bet has the potential to return up to £52.50 in this match. (odds subject to change)
Motherwell 2-1 Kilmarnock
Motherwell have put in some great performances over the course of the season so far but they have struggled defensively at times too. We can see Kilmarnock grabbing a goal after catching out the backline.
