This Sunday’s Serie A action sees Fiorentina make the trip to face Fiorentina at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. This is a big match for the both sides with them needing a win to place in positions they have set as their season aims.
Both teams head into this game in contrasting form to each other. Over Napoli’s last five games they have lost once and drawn four, not helping their aims of winning the Serie A this season. Fiorentina on the other hand have achieved one win and four losses, slipping away from the UEFA Champions League place they once held not too long ago. This Sunday’s match is a must win for both teams to try and pick up some momentum for the remainder of the season.
Formation: 3-5-2
Napoli Predicted Line-Up: Alex Meret; Alessandro Buongiorno, Amir Rrahmani, Giovanni Di Lorenzo; Leonardo Spinazzola, Scott McTominay, Stanislav Lobotka, Billy Gilmour, Matteo Politano; Giacomo Raspadori, Romelu Lukaku
In one of the most important matches of the season last week, Napoli rescued a point from behind versus league leaders Inter Milan thanks to AFC Bournemouth loanee Philip Biling’s 87th minute equaliser. Despite the highs of that fixture and now making the race for this season’s Scudetto, Napoli have now gone five games without a Serie A win. They sit in second place after 27 matches, earing themselves 17 wins, four losses and the result against Inter means they have six draws this season. That has left them with 57 points, one behind their opponents from last Saturday.
Three goals curtesy of David Neres, Romelu Lukaku and Scott McTominay helped Gli Azzurri see off Fiorentina in the reverse fixture back in January and they will look to replicate a win this weekend. Neres is unfortunately injured, unavailable this time round but Belgian all-time top scorer Romelu Lukaku has continued his goal scoring form since that match and looks to be a difference maker at home. In 25 domestic matches the 31-year-old has netted nine goals and provided seven assists. He could be Napoli’s best bet in grabbing at least one more to give them three points when facing the Tuscan outfit this Sunday.
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Fiorentina Predicted Line-Up: David De Gea; Luca Ranieri (c), Pablo Marí, Pietro Comuzzo; Robin Gosens, Cher Ndour, Danilo Cataldi, Yacine Adli, Dodô; Lucas Beltrán, Moises Kean
Results just haven’t been going Fiorentina’s way as of late, falling in the Serie A standings following, loss after loss and once sitting in the UEFA Champions League places. They currently reside in seventh place after 27 games with 13 wins, eight losses and six draws. Those results have left them with 45 points, two behind the only UEFA Europa Conference League qualification spot, the competition they are currently competing in. Fiorentina have now lost four out of their last five matches with their most recent defeat coming at the hands of Panathinaikos in a 3-2 goal fest under European lights.
Including all competitions, La Viola have won once away from home in eight attempts, failing to keep a clean sheet in all of them. The Fiorentina fans have reason to still be hopeful for a result this Sunday though as Moise Kean looks to be back and ready for this match after recovering from a head injury. Kean has been the second best striker in the Serie A with his 15 goals from 24 appearances, as well as providing two assists. The only person who he is behind in the Golden Boot race is Mateo Reteugi who is just having an incredible first season with Atalanta. The former Everton and Juventus player will look to make the difference against the solid defence of Napoli this Sunday as him and his teammates try and pick up a crucial three points.
The last five faceoffs have been split in the favour of Napoli, winning twice, drawing once and Fiorentina defeating them in the remaining match. The home side should pick up another win to add to the list and keep them in contention of lifting the Scudetto this Sunday.
