After an enticing Saturday of Championship action, fans of the EFL are lucky as ever to receive an extra little tidbit of football on the Sunday.
Johannes Hoffe Thorup’s Norwich City host Michael Carrick’s Middlesbrough side this weekend.
Despite the different narratives around the two teams this season, they’ve actually had relatively similar starts to the Championship campaign.
That being said, Norwich have become very difficult to beat recently, and look good value to start pushing for promotion.
Norwich City Predicted Line-up - George Long; Ben Chrisene, Shane Duffy, Jose Cordoba, Callum Doyle; Emiliano Marcondes, Kenny McLean, Anis Ben Slimane; Ante Crnac, Borja Sainz, Josh Sargent
Despite a number of draws across their unbeaten run, Norwich have looked really good at the moment. They’ve pulled off great results against Hull and Watford.
The Canaries are without Marcelino Nunez and Angus Gunn for this fixture, they’re both injured at the moment.
Borja Sainz has been on fire in recent weeks, he’s got six goals in his last six games.
Middlesbrough Predicted Line-up - Seny Dieng; Luke Ayling, Rav Van den Berg, George Edmundson, Neto Borges; Aidan Morris, Hayden Hackney; Ben Doak, Finn Azaz, Riley McGree; Emmanuel Latte Lath
Whilst Middlesbrough are level on points with their opponents, picking up more wins than Norwich so far, they’ve also had plenty of losses over the start of the campaign.
Dael Fry and Alex Bangura are out injured, limiting the away sides’ selection choices.
Hayden Hackney has looked as brilliant as ever, and is really coming into his own in midfield this season.
These two sides have faced each other 17 times since 2004. Norwich have won seven of these meetings, and Middlesbrough have also won seven.
Three matches have resulted in a draw.
6th March 2024 - Middlesbrough 3-1 Norwich - Championship
24th October 2023 - Norwich 1-2 Middlesbrough - Championship
14th April 2023 - Middlesbrough 5-1 Norwich - Championship
12th November 2022 - Norwich 1-2 Middlesbrough - Championship
30th January 2021 - Norwich 0-0 Middlesbrough - Championship
Whilst Middlesbrough have dominated this fixture in recent years, Norwich finally appear to be back in their element, and I’m confident they’ll continue to push up the table and battle for automatic promotion.
The combination of home advantage, and how well they’ve been playing recently, means I think they’ll be victorious in this fixture.
Overall we think the best bet to place for this game would be Norwich City to win, backed up by our research.
Odds of 9/5 on BetFred mean that a £10 bet has the potential to return up to £28 in this match.
(odds subject to change)
Norwich City 2-0 Middlesbrough
Norwich will put themselves three points clear of Boro in the table.
It’s tight at the top of England’s second division, but we’ve had our say on who’s going to lift the title.
