This Monday’s Premier League action sees Crystal Palace make the trip up to face Nottingham Forest at The City Ground. This result could have serious implications as Palace are currently in the relegation zone and will be desperate to escape.
At the start of the season you would have expected these sides to be switched around in the positions they're currently in given the amazing run the Crystal Palace went on towards the end of last year. However, it is Forest that are the better team as of right now.
Both teams are missing players in key areas. Morgan Gibbs-White is absent for Nottingham Forest and Daniel Muñoz is a doubt for Palace. Luckily for Crystal Palace fans Eberechi Eze will most likely be in the starting lineup as he could be a difference maker for them. Forest winger Callum Hudson-Odoi is in great form at the moment and he could also change the match in his team's favour.
Predicted Line-Up: Matz Sels; Álex Moreno, Murillo, Nikola Milenković, Ola Aina; Nicolás Domínguez, Ryan Yates (c); Anthony Elanga, Elliot Anderson, Callum Hudson-Odoi; Chris Wood
Nottingham Forest’s 2024/25 Premier League season has been great so far. After seven games, they find themselves flying in 12th place, just creeping ever so closer to the top half of the table. Two wins, one loss and four draws has them on 10 points, just three away from as high as seventh placed Tottenham Hotspur. Forrest have put in some great performances in the league this season including a win against a top Liverpool team and holding Chelsea to share a point each in a draw in their previous game.
The Garibaldis have been great defensively, only conceding six goals so far and right back Ola Aina and centre back Murillo have been a joy to watch. Attacking wise and it is Chris Wood that Forest have relied on seeing as he has bagged four out of the seven goals they have scored. They are however, left without two great creative players for this match. James Ward-Prowse is unavailable due to suspension off to picking up a red card against Chelsea and Morgan Gibbs-White is currently on the sidelines with an ankle injury. Even though they are injured, Forest still have great attacking outlets so that shouldn't worry them too much.
Predicted Line-Up: Dean Henderson; Trevoh Chalobah, Marc Guéhi (c), Maxence Lacroix; Tyrick Mitchell, Jefferson Lerma, Adam Wharton, Nathaniel Clyne; Eberechi Eze, Ismaïla Sarr; Jean-Phillipe Mateta
Crystal Palace on the other hand, have not had a good start to the season. They have not managed to achieve a win in the opening seven games of the Premier League. The summer transfer window saw them lose Michael Olise to Bayern Munich and they have struggled ever since. That move however is not the only reason for their poor displays. Four losses and three draws has left them with three points and in 18th in the relegation zone. One reason for their defeats could be the fact they have only scored five goals. Jean-Phillipe Mateta is responsible for two of them, and the other three coming from Eberchi Eze, Marc Guéhi and an own goal from one of their opponents make up the other three.
Similar to Forest, The Eagles also have injury problems. Centre backs Chadi Riad and Chris Richards are out. So too are Cheick Doucouré and Matheus França. The biggest miss however is probably right wing back Daniel Muñoz who picked up a groin injury in his match versus Liverpool before the international break. The Colombian has been great for them whenever he has played and gives Crystal Palace some great attacking options when he bombs forward. Palace have not put money in getting competent backups for that position and it might cost them in this match versus Nottingham Forest.
There have been 57 matches where these two teams have faced each other throughout history.
Nottingham Forest come into this match holding an advantage over Crystal Palace as they have come out victors on 24 occasions, 10 more times than Palace’s 14 wins in this fixture. A draw has happened 19 times out of the 57 games, leaving Forest with a 42.1% win percentage.
The last four faceoffs have only been slightly favoured in Nottingham Forest’s side. Four draws and a win for Forest. They have a great chance this Monday to add another win as Palace have not been performing the best at the moment.
30th March 2024 – Nottingham Forest 1-1 Crystal Palace – Premier League
7th October 2023 – Crystal Palace 0-0 Nottingham Forest – Premier League
28th May 2023 – Crystal Palace 1-1 Nottingham Forest – Premier League
12th November 2022 – Nottingham Forest 1-0 Crystal Palace – Premier League
Given the poor performances Palace have put on display this season, as evidenced by their league standings, Forest have a great opportunity to climb up the league table with a win in this match. Even though they might not have had the results go their way this season, Crystal Palace do still pose a threat at goal with the likes of Mateta and Eze.
For that reason, our betting experts have gone with a Nottingham Forest To Win + Both Teams To Score as our best value tip for this game.
Odds of 9/2 mean that a £10 bet has the potential to return up to £55 in this match.
(odds subject to change)
Nottingham Forest 2-1 Crystal Palace
To put it simply, the attack of Nottingham Forest has just been better in these last seven games. Chris Wood has found himself putting the ball in the back of the net four times this season and we can see him being a key part in what we think will be a Nottingham Forest victory.
