This Thursday’s UEFA Europa Conference League action sees Fiorentina make the trip to face Panathinaikos at the Olympiako Stadio Spyros Louis. This is a big match for both sides as a good result in the first leg could set them up well for the second.
Both teams head into this game in great form. Over Real Betis’ last five games they have won four and lost. Vitória Guimarães SC on the other hand have achieved an unbeaten stint, winning twice and drawing three times. This Thursday’s match has big implications with each team trying to get an advantage to go into the second leg.
Formation: 4-3-3
Panathinaikos Predicted Line-Up: Bartlomiej Dragowski; Filip Mladenovic, Sverrir Ingi Ingason, Nemanja Maksimovic, Giannis Kotsiras; Manolis Siopis, Azzedine Ounahi, Adam Gnezda Cerin; Filip Djuricic, Fotis Ioannidis, Tetê
Panathinaikos couldn’t make the most out of the league phase of this year’s edition of the UEFA Europa Conference League, finishing in 13th place after six games. They recorded three wins, one loss and two draws which left them with 10 points. That was enough to make it into the preliminary knockout stage where despite losing 2-1 the first leg against Víkingur Reykjavík, Panathinaikos came back to win 2-0 in the second, leaving it as late as a 95th minute goal to ensure the match would not reach extra time and potentially penalties. Domestically they sit third in the Greek Super League standings and have made it into championship playoff rounds.
Goals haven’t been the main focus for Trifýlli but defence instead. They have kept four clean sheets from their last five UEFA Europa Conference League initial phase matches, going on to win all four of them. Playing at home has served them well too as in their last 14 games at the Olympiako Stadio Spyros Louis they have come out the other end victorious 11 times, picking up a streak of five consecutive home matches across all competitions. All the home fans will be hoping they can add to that streak against Fiorentina this Thursday, giving them a good advantage heading into the second leg.
Formation: 3-5-2
Fiorentina Predicted Line-Up: David De Gea; Luca Raineri, Pablo Marí, Marin Pongračić; Robin Gosens, Rolando Mandragora, Danilo Cataldi, Cher Ndour, Dodô; Lucas Beltrán, Nicolò Zaniolo
Unlike their opponents, Fiorentina automatic qualified for the Round of 16 after placing third in the league phase with four wins, one loss and one draw. Those results left them with 13 points, sharing that tally with three other teams but goal difference the reason as to why they finished behind only Chelsea and Vitória Guimarães SC to give them a lower seed this round. Fiorentina have historically done well in this competition with them reaching the Final in the 2022/23 season versus West Ham United and again in the 2023/24 season against Olympiacos.
Unfortunately they lost both of those matches but La Viola will be hoping they can avenge those results and make it to a third consecutive UEFA Europa Conference League Final and ultimately lift the trophy. It hasn’t helped that their top three contributors have since left the club and striker Moises Kean is out with a head injury. Fiorentina will have to come together as a collective to try and make the difference away from home this Thursday, doing their best efforts to go back to Italy with a decent result to make things easier for next week’s reverse second leg fixture.
These clubs have never faced off against each other before making this Thursday the first ever meeting between the pair of them. This will be a tough game to predict given how Panathinaikos and Fiorentina have had competitive seasons so far and both are in hit and miss form.
Pana has good players but as a team they are not playing compact. Fiorentina is doing good job in this cup every year. They won’t lose this away game.
For that reason, our betting experts have gone with Fiorentina Double Chance as our best value tip for this game.
