This Sunday’s huge French Super Cup clash sees AS Monaco make the trip to face Paris St-Germain at Stadium 974 in Qatar. This is a crucial match both sides as only one team can lift the trophy come the final whistle.
Paris St-Germain are in great form coming into this game, unbeaten in their last six games across all competitions. One of those results stands out in particular is it when they beat AS Monaco in their own backyard, and in style too, putting four goals past them. Monaco do still have a chance in this match with their young stars coming through this season and some great cover that can make an impact off the bench. Sunday is a massive game for both sides so hopefully we can look forward to a back and forth match with plenty of goals.
Formation: 4-3-3
Predicted Line-Up: Gianluigi Donnarumma; Nuno Mendes, Willan Pacho, Marquinhos, Achraf Hakimi; João Neves, Vitinha, Fabián Ruiz; Bradley Barcola, Désiré Doué, Ousmane Dembélé
Paris St-Germain have had an excellent start to the season, finding themselves 10 points clear from second place at the top of the table. After 16 games they sit in first place with 12 wins and four draws, still actually yet to lose. Those matches have left them with 40 points, looking uncatchable from top spot. Stepping up this season for Les Parisiens have been the pairing of wingers in Bradley Barcola and Ousmane Dembélé. The two of them have both achieved 12 goal contributions each, making up more than half of PSG’s 44 goal tally in Ligue 1. Unfortunately this isn’t a domestic league match but the French Super Cup. All the PSG fans will be hoping that the duo of Barcola and Dembélé will be able to translate that Ligue 1 form and translate it into a great performance this Sunday.
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Predicted Line-Up: Phillip Köhn; Vanderson, Mohammed Salisu, Thilo Kehrer, Wilfried Singo; Soungoutou Magassa, Lamine Camara; Aleksandr Golovin, Eliesse Ben Seghir, Maghes Akliouche; Breel Embolo
AS Monaco are having an great start to the season, finding themselves in a fight for second place in Ligue 1 as their opponents have already run away with a hefty lead. After 16 games they sit in third place with nine wins, four losses and three draws. Those matches have left them with 30 points, sharing that tally with second placed Marseille but it is goal difference that is the reason as to why they are not higher up the table. In the goals for Les Rouge et Blanc has been youngster Eliesse Ben Seghir. The 19 year old winger has put up eight goal contributions with five of them coming from getting on the scoresheet. This Sunday is probably Monaco’s best chance of winning some silverware this year so Ben Seghir and the rest of his teammates will have to be in top form to try and take down French giants Paris St-Germain.
The last five faceoffs have been split in the favour of PSG, winning two of the last five matches, drawing twice and losing once against Monaco. Their last meeting was two weeks ago where PSG dominated Monaco so it doesn’t look likely that they will beat PSG this time around.
18th December 2024 – AS Monaco 2-4 Paris St-Germain – Ligue 1
1st March 2024 – AS Monaco 0-0 Paris St-Germain – Ligue 1
24th November 2023 – Paris St-Germain 5-2 AS Monaco – Ligue 1
11th February 2023 – AS Monaco 3-1 Paris St-Germain – Ligue 1
28th August 2022 – Paris St-Germain 1-1 AS Monaco – Ligue 1
When these sides faced each other in Ligue 1 two weeks ago, PSG put on a display away from home, winning 2-4. They were dominant throughout and it doesn’t seem like Monaco will have been able to make the changes they need to stop that from happening again.
For that reason, our betting experts have gone with a Paris St-Germain To Win as our best value tip for this game.
Odds of 3/5 mean that a £10 bet has the potential to return up to £16 in this match.
(odds subject to change)
