It is Wigan’s first away match in two games as they travel to Peterborough on matchday 28 of the EFL League One season. Being defeated 5-1 in their last match against Lincoln, Peterborough United remain six points clear of the relegation zone. That away loss has seen the Posh go eight games without a win in the league. After a midtable finish last year, Wigan Athletic will have hoped for a return to the Championship on their second attempt. However currently sat in 16th place, they find themselves nine points off the playoffs.
Peterborough are winless in eight games and have the worst form in the league over the last 12 games, almost half the season. If it wasn’t for their relatively strong start the Posh would be in big trouble, a surprise as Peterborough have reached the playoffs in their last two seasons. Relegation would see Peterborough return to the fourth tier for the first time since 2008.
Predicted Line Up (4-2-3-1): Nicholas Bilokapic, Carl Johnston, Sam Hughes, Emmanuel Fernandez, Tayo Edun, Archie Collins, Hector Kyprianou, Ricky Jade-Jones, Ryan De Havilland, Cian Hayes, Gustav Lindgren
Academy graduate Ricky Jade-Jones is having a great goalscoring season so far, making him a rare positive in Peterborough’s season, he has 12 goals in all competitions so far and scored the Posh’s single goal against Lincoln last weekend. With Kwame Poku injured the 22-year-old will have to step up once again if Peterborough are to beat Wigan.
Wigan’s current form over the last eight games would see them in 7th position, a lot better than their current 16th place, the Tics have four wins and three losses in their last eight, with their form unfortunately remaining inconsistent.
Predicted Line Up (4-4-2): Sam Tickle, Toby Sibbick, James Carragher, Jason Kerr, Luke Robinson, Ollie Norburn, Scott Smith, Joseph Hungbo, Jonny Smith, Thelo Asgaard, Dale Taylor
Thelo Asgaard is Wigan’s biggest threat right now, with four goals in his last four games the attacking midfielder has scored a third of his goals this season in the last fortnight. The Norweigan U21 international has already bettered his tally for Wigan last season (9 goals) scoring 12 so far.
These two clubs have met 24 times in their history, Wigan have been dominant overall winning 13 of the fixtures, there have been 7 draws and Peterborough have won 4 meetings, 3 of those wins came in the last 6 meetings. Their previous five meetings are as follows:
Wigan have made a habit of winning away recently and have seen an upturn in form. Both teams can score plenty of goals as well.
For this reason, our betting experts say Wigan Athletic to Win and Both Teams To Score is the best value tip for this game. With odds at 9/2, a bet of £10 could see a potential return of up to £55!
