Wayne Rooney takes charge of his second competitive match in charge of Plymouth Argyle on Wednesday 14th August 2024 as his side take on League Two’s Cheltenham Town in Carabao Cup action.
This match is set to be the 30th game between these two teams in their histories. Unsurprisingly it is the Championship side Plymouth Argyle that have the advantage having won 18 of those games to Cheltenham’s 8.
As it stands, Plymouth are unbeaten in their last 6 games against Cheltenham also. The last game happening in pre season back on the 20th July ending in a demolishing 5-1 victory for the Pilgrims. Something they will look to do again in this match.
Plymouth come into this game with no new injury news, luckily for them. However with this being Rooney’s second competitive game in charge many are expecting him to make changes.
Summer signing Kornel Szucs is expected to be amongst the changes being set to make his debut.
It is a similar story for Cheltenham Town who are also expected to make changes in this match.
Plymouth Argyle - Michael Cooper, Bali Mumba, Julio Pleguezuelo, Kornel Szucs, Nathanael Ogbeta, Adam Randell, Callum Wright, Jordan Houghton, Mustapha Bundu, Freddie Issaka, Ryan Hardie
Cheltenham Town - Owen Evans, Levi Laing, Scot Bennett, Ibrahim Bakare, Arkell Jude-Boyd, Liam Kinsella, Tom Pett, Ryan Haynes, Ethon Archer, George Miller, Matty Taylor
Despite a devastating loss in their last game to Sheffield Wednesday this past weekend it is hard to see past the league difference between the two sides. The championship standard is much higher than that of League Two - something that will surely have an effect on this game.
So, with that being said, our team of professional tipping experts have determined that backing Plymouth Argyle to Win is the way to go. With odds of 7/10, £10 could return £17.10 making it our best value tip in this fixture.
This game is sure to be an interesting fixture and a must watch in the EFL Cup. Kick off is scheduled for 19:45 pm and you can check out all of the action live on Sky Sports Arena in the UK.
