The EFL Championship season continues on Friday 27th September 2024 as Wayne Rooney’s Plymouth Argyle host Luton Town at the Home Park Stadium in Plymouth.
Both teams have struggled early on into this season and will hope this game is a chance to turn around their fortunes.
Both Plymouth Argyle and Luton Town have had struggles at the start of this season, failing to make an impact on the EFL Championship so far this campaign.
However with both teams' struggles there have been signs that they may be able to turn things around in more recent weeks and this could be a huge opportunity for them to do so.
Predicted Lineup - Daniel Grimshaw, Joe Edwards, Kornel Szucs, Lewis Gibson, Bali Mumba, Adam Randell, Morgan Whittaker, Darko Gyabi, Adam Forshaw, Ibrahim Cissoko, Ryan Hardie
It has been a tough start to the league season for Rooney’s Plymouth Argyle. Right now they sit 20th place having picked up just five points in their opening six games. Winning just once.
Despite this Rooney has been very open about the fact that he likes the way his team are playing and that things will start to turn around. After all they did end Sunderland’s unbeaten run just two weeks ago. This will be a huge chance for them to pick up valuable points at the bottom of the table.
Predicted Lineup - Thomas Kaminski, Reece Burke, Mark McGuinness, Teden Mengi, Reuell Walters, Liam Walsh, Marvelous Nakamba, Alfie Doughty, Carlton Morris, Tahith Chong, Elijah Adebayo
Surprisingly Luton Town have had a difficult start to life back in the Championship despite being tipped to go straight back up. However they have started to turn their form around slightly in more recent weeks.
Right now they sit 16th in the league on just seven points only picking up their only two wins of the season in the past two weeks against Millwall and Sheffield Wednesday.
One man they can thank for that is Carlton Morris who scored a brace off the bench against Sheffield Wednesday to secure all three points. If he can continue to fire in the goals he could be key to this Luton side going forward.
Plymouth and Luton have faced each other 78 times in their histories so far.
It is Plymouth Argyle that have the advantage over Luton having won 30 of those games to Luton’s 25 wins. This while there have also been 23 draws.
They may not have played each other since 2019 but Luton are actually on a five game unbeaten run against Plymouth. The Pilgrims failing to win since October 2015 - where both sides were in EFL League Two.
9th March 2019 - Plymouth Argyle 0-0 Luton Town - EFL League One
17th November 2018 - Luton Town 5-1 Plymouth Argyle - EFL League One
25th February 2017 - Luton Town 1-1 Plymouth Argyle - EFL League Two
6th August 2016 - Plymouth 0-3 Luton Town - EFL League Two
19th March 2016 - Luton Town 1-0 Plymouth Argyle - EFL League Two
Coming into this game both teams have struggled to pick up points. However we do expect Luton Town to come away with a win in this match.
Luton have begun to pick up their form with wins in their last two games - performing well in those games as well. This while Plymouth have continued to struggle especially when it comes to keeping the ball out of their own net.
That is why our team of experts are backing odds of 19/20 for Luton Town To Win in this match. These odds mean that £10 has the potential to return up to £19.50.
(Odds subject to change)
Plymouth Argyle 1-2 Luton Town
Plymouth Argyle will most likely continue to struggle this season against a Luton Town side that have begun to pick up the pace and collect points. Guiding them up the table where arguably they should be right now.
