This Saturday’s FA Cup clash sees Burnley make the trip to face Preston North End at Deepdale. This is a big match for both sides as a win ensures them through to the next round of the competition.
Both teams head into this game in good form, but it is Burnley that slightly edge out their opponents across their last five matches. Not only are they unbeaten in that time frame but their unbeaten run extends to 23 matches. Preston North End on the other hand have won once, drawn three times and lost once over their last five games with that defeat coming in their most recent fixture. This Saturday should be an interesting game with the match being a must win for both sides.
Formation: 3-5-2
Preston North End Predicted Line-Up: Freddie Woodman; Andrew Hughes, Lewis Gibson, Liam Lindsey; Jayden Meghoma, Ali McCann, Stefán Teitur Thórdarson, Ryan Ledson, Kaine Kesler-Hayden; Emil Riis, Milutin Osmajic
Over the course of the club’s history Preston North End have won the FA Cup a total of two times. They now come up against Burnley for the third time this season after facing them in their scheduled Championship matches already. Both times ended in goalless stalemates, leaving them with nine wins, 10 losses and 15 draws from the 34 domestic games they’ve played so far. Those results have given them 42 points, 26 behind opponents Burnley.
Thankfully for The Lilywhites, this match comes in the FA Cup and not in the Championship. Top contributor in the league for them has been Emil Riss with 11 involvements, split into nine goals and two assists. The Preston fans will be hoping that he can convert that league form into FA Cup form and see themselves into the Quarter Finals of the competition this Saturday.
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Burnley Predicted Line-Up: James Trafford; Lucas Pires, Maxime Estève, Joe Worrall, Oliver Sonne; Josh Brownhill, Josh Cullen; Jeremy Sarmiento, Hannibal Mejbri, Marcus Edwards; Ashley Barnes
The last time that Burnley suffered a defeat across all competitions was all the way back in early November, achieving a majorly impressive 23 game unbeaten run of 14 win and nine draws. It has left them third in the Championship with 18 wins, two losses and 14 draws after 34 games. They sit two points behind second placed Sheffield United and seven points behind league leaders Leeds United.
The Claret’s goalkeeper James Trafford has remarkably kept a clean sheet in his last 12 consecutive games, putting in his best efforts to bring owner JJ Watt out of retirement as per the agreement they have with each other. In the goals for Burnley has been captain Josh Brownhill, netting 10 times in the Championship, accompanied with four assists. With it looking like promotion back into the Premier League likely, Scott Parker’s side can afford to focus their attention onto the FA Cup this Saturday, resting a few key players in the process. Brownhill however should be front and centre in Burnley’s efforts in proceeding to the Quarter Finals of the competition.
The last three faceoffs have been split in the favour of Wycombe Wanderers, winning twice and drawing the remaining match to Birmingham City. Domestically Birmingham have been out of this world this season, it seems like they’ll pick up three points this Saturday.

Preston have been solid at home this season, not losing at Deepdale in 21 matches this season. They have been great at performing a low block and mid block too, not overly pressing. Burnley have notably been great as well, making this game a tough one for both teams.
For that reason, our betting experts have gone with First Half Draw as our best value tip for this game.
Odds of 10/11 mean that a £10 bet has the potential to return up to £19.09 in this match.
(odds subject to change)
Preston North End 0-1 Burnley
The last two meetings between these sides have ended with them sharing a point and not sharing a goal either. Burnley’s defence have made it very hard to score past them but Preston have found the back of the net in their last 11 home matches. It should be a slow start for each team with things starting to happen in the second 45 minutes.
