Tuesday night brings us a League One fixture between Reading and Shrewsbury Town. Reading will be looking to capitalise on Shrewsbury’s poor season, as a win could take the Royals into a playoff spot.
Despite issues off the pitch Reading have given themselves a good chance to get promotion this season. They have one win, one draw and three losses in their last five games. They’ve lost five of their last twelve and are in relatively indifferent form. Currently, in 8th, they’re two points outside the top six but have recently had a disappointing loss to Burton Albion.
Shrewsbury’s form has taken an upturn in 2025, they have won three of their last five games, almost half of their entire win total in League One (7). Two of those wins came against tough opponents in Wrexham and Rotherham. The form table in the last four has them 12th in the league, so if they keep up this form Gareth Ainsworth’s side will be out of the relegation zone soon.
With the departure of Sam Smith to Wrexham, Jayden Wareham will have to step up to lead the front line. Harvey Knibbs’ 11 goals this season is enough to make him Reading’s most dangerous threat, so he is a player to watch for this tie.
Predicted Line Up (4-3-3): Joel Pereira, Michael Craig, Harlee Dean, Tyler Bindon, Andre Garcia, Charlie Savage, Lewis Wing, Harvey Knibbs, Chem Campbell, Mamadi Camara, Jayden Wareham
Experienced striker John Marquis has four goals in his last five games including important strikes in key wins. The 32-year-old has a brilliant eye for the back of the net and is one to watch if the Shrews are to score in this fixture.
Predicted Line Up (3-4-1-2): Jamal Blackman, Aaron Pierre, Josh Feeney, Morgan Feeney, Luca Hoole, Malvind Benning, Alex Gilliead, Dominic Gape, Taylor Perry, George Lloyd, John Marquis
These two have met 57 times in their history, last season was the first time they’d met in 30 years though. It has been very close also, Shrewsbury have won 22 matches, Reading have won 21 and there have been 14 draws. The last five meetings are as follows:
Shrewsbury’s poor away form and Reading’s higher league position suggest they should be victorious here, however, Shrewsbury is in better form and might surprise a few. For that reason, our betting experts have gone with Reading to win as our best value tip for this game.
Odds of 1/1 mean that a £10 bet has the potential to return up to £20.40 in this match.
