Round 1 of the Coppa Italia kicks off this weekend but unfortunately this game cannot be decided by both team’s managers playing, as Andrea Pirlo and Cesc Fabregas come head to head with their respective sides in Sampdoria and Como.

Sampdoria

Sampdoria unfortunately missed out on making it into the Serie A last season after failing to make the Semi-Final of the Serie B playoffs, losing to Palermo. They continue their rebuilding process with Italian footballing legend Andrea Pirlo as they look to make it back to the top flight again, but the Coppa Italia is their main focus in this one.

The midfield maestro turned manager has guided The Blucerchiati to three wins form four matches during pre-season with the domestic campaign yet to start. He will look to carry that form into a competition that Sampdoria have won four times in the club’s history.

Last season, the Genoa based club shared the riches with Como in a 1-1 home draw in Serie B. They will obviously be aiming for one better in this match and see themselves through to the second round of the Coppa Italia.

Sampdoria vs Como

Como

Following securing promotion into Serie A, former Spain World Cup winner Cesc Fabregas has taken the reigns at Como for this season. The Spaniard is also a minority shareholder in the club so he would love to see some success in the years to come but his first involvement is a tough one.

Como have done brilliantly in the transfer window in picking up some star players like Raphael Varane, Pepe Reina, Alberto Moreno and Andrea Belotti to help strengthen the squad and help their efforts to stay in Italy’s top flight.

During pre-season, I Lariani saw wins over Cagliari and Las Palma before suffering defeat to Al-Hilal and ending with a goalless draw against Bundesliga side Wolfsburg. Como won 21 of their 38 league games last season, but crucially they recorded a draw to their opponents in this match during their domestic campaign.

What is the tip?

Our betting experts have come up with a prediction of Sampdoria to Win. Como have failed to score in their last two attempts and look shaky at the back with Varane not expected to be playing in this Coppa Italia match. Their main focus this year is to not be relegated and that is something that could be lying in the back of Fabregas’ mind.
