This Sunday sees three Scottish Premiership matches so here at Football Park we’ve decided to make you an ACCA featuring all of the games.
Celtic have started the season as they mean to go on as in their opening game Celtic dominated their way to a 4-0 win over Kilmarnock and then followed that up with a 0-2 away win against Hibernian in their second. Facing Hibernian again just a week later, this time in the Scottish League Cup, they saw victory again letting them progress through to the next round after a 3-1 win. Their most recent match ended in a 0-3 away thrashing versus St Mirren, leaving them with nine points from nine and yet to concede domestically so far.
New manager Philippe Clement has led Rangers into an average start to their season, opening the season with a goalless draw with Hearts, but improved in their next two league fixtures. They ended up beating Motherwell 2-1 and then went on to tear Ross County apart in a 6-0 demolition. Aiming to bring an end to their disappointing run of Old Firm derbies, Ranger will have to bring their best on Sunday.
This leg of the ACCA is for Reo Hatate To Score Anytime. The Japanese midfielder has scored twice in three matches so far this season an now with the departure of Matt O’Riley who gave Celtic 19 goals and 18 assists, Hatate will need to step up and this is the season to do so.
Since returning to the Scottish top flight as champions of the Scottish Championship in 2020-21, winning the league title with 57 points from 27 matches, Hearts have enjoyed three fantastic years in the Premiership. After six games across all competitions though, Hearts remain without a victory, suffering five losses and managing just one 0-0 draw on the opening day against Rangers. Manager Steven Naismith will be hoping he can change that form in this clash against Dundee United, who Hearts have not lost to in their last eight games, six of those games ending in wins.
Dundee United will come into this one in great sprits as they are in amazing form, one loss in their opening eight matches this season. That loss was in the Scottish League Cup group stage, a 0-2 defeat to Falkirk. Since then Dundee have gone on to win five and draw two of their following seven outings. With both sides recently spending time in the Scottish Championship within the last five years, Dundee more recently as they were promoted last season, this should be a close match.
This leg of the ACCA is for Lawrence Shankland To Score Anytime. Hearts have had a poor start to the season but if there’s one player that fans can rely on, it’s Lawrence Shankland. The Hearts captain bagged 31 goals in 47 appearances across all competitions last season and that sort of ability doesn’t just leave you come the end of the year. We expect him to find the back of the net again.
Kilmarnock have been a club on the up over the last five years ever since their promotion to the Scottish Premiership, achieving automatic promotion, the prize of lifting the Scottish Championship trophy back in the 2021/22 season. They did face a scare when only just avoided an instant relegation back into the second division in the following season, but managed to avoid the drop by six points when it came down to the wire.
A surprising fourth placed finish with 56 points last year was the reward for a fantastic season for them but this season hasn’t gone the same way. Kilmarnock have had a disastrous start to 2024-25, winning just one of their ten matches across all competitions. Kilmarnock remain the only team yet to put a single point on the board in the Scottish Premiership with three defeats from three, while they are also the only team yet to score in the league.
Despite enjoying a positive start to the term, winning three of their four Scottish League Cup games, Hibernian have since failed to win in any of their following four outings. Bested 3-0 by St Mirren in their opening game was the first of three defeats in the 2024/25 Scottish Premiership season. 2-0 and 3-1 losses to Celtic both domestically and in the League Cup were what followed.
Hibbs have done well against Kilmarnock in the past. They have only lost just once in the past 13 matches between the two sides across all competitions. In modern history, Hibernian have won 20 times, Kilmarnock 9 wins and a draw has occurred 11 times.
This leg of the ACCA is for Hibernian To Win + Under 3.5 goals. History proves that Kilmarnock and Hibernian have struggled recently but it also tells us that Hibbs barely lose this fixture. Both sides have found it really difficult to find the back of the net with Kilmarnock actually yet to score in the league, the reason why we think it will be a low scoring game.
