Manchester City travel away to Slavon Bratislava as they look to claim their first win of the new UEFA Champions League season, after their goalless draw at home to Inter Milan.
Manchester City will be keen to use this game as a chance to get back on the winning train, against a side many would call one of the weakest in the competition.
Slovan Bratislava Predicted Line-ups: Dominik Takáč; Jurij Medveděv, Kevin Wimmer, Guram Kashia, Cesar Blackman; Artur Gajdoš, Július Szöke; Vladimír Weiss, Marko Tolić, Tigran Barseghyan; David Strelec.
The Slovakian side lost their opening Champions League group-stage game last time out. Celtic beat them 5-1 in Scotland, with Kevin Wimmer scoring.
Celtic are a prestigious European side, and have won just as many Champions League trophies as Manchester City have. However, these days the Blues are by far the superior side, and Slovan Bratislava could be in real danger here.
From their point of view though, they have won their last three games against Michalovce, Belusa and Ruzomberok. They’ve also been deadly in front of goal recently, with 12 goals across those three games.
Manchester City Predicted Line-ups: Ederson; Joško Gvardiol, Manuel Akanji, Rúben Dias, Kyle Walker; Mateo Kovačić, Rico Lewis; Jack Grealish, İlkay Gündoğan, Bernardo Silva; Erling Haaland.
Manchester City drew their last game away to Newcastle United in the Premier League. In a division where every single point matters, it was a huge blow for Pep Guardiola’s side. That’s now two draws in a row. Before they faced Arsenal the week prior, they had won all four of their opening Premier League games.
Guardiola will use this game as a chance to get back to winning ways. They have been superb in the Champions League in the group stages under his reign, and against a smaller side like Bratislava, an entertaining performance is expected.
These two sides have never played each other in the history of the game.
We’re predicting Manchester City to win this game, and for there to be over 3.5 goals scored by both teams combined.
Last season in the Champions League, Manchester City scored a minimum of three goals in every group stage game that they played. Now add the fact they’re drawn their last two, and Erling Haaland has only converted once in his last three games (poor for his standards). The Blues will be very hungry for goals, and Bratislava will be the unfortunate victims.
Through our bookmakers, you can get odds of ⅝ which would see a return of £16.25 from a £20 stake.
Slovan Bratislava 0-5 Manchester City
It will not be a pretty night for the home side. Guardiola is out for a statement win.
