Both of these sides recently played at the European Championships but it was Austria that pulled off some remarkable results. They initially lost to France but went on to beat Poland and Netherlands to qualify into the knockout rounds. Despite their loss to Turkey, Austria showed that they’re a nation with great footballing unity, and the experience to win these kinds of games.
Slovenia vs Austria FIFA ranking:
Slovenia: 52nd in the world
Austria: 22nd in the world
Whilst not everyone always agrees with the FIFA world rankings, these sides are not 30 places apart for no reason. Austria’s squad is filled with many more highly ranked players in Real Madrid’s David Alaba, Bayern Munich’s Konrad Laimer and Inter Milan’s Marko Arnautovic.
Whilst Slovakia possesses strong players, their star players are past their best. Benjamin Sesko looks a real talent, but as seen at the Euros, too young to carry his nation forward alone.
To add insult to injury for the home nation, in all three of their games against the Austrians, they have lost. Conceding five times, and never finding the back of the net.
We’re backing Austria to win this game.
