Spain welcome Serbia to the Estadio Nuevo Arcángel for their fourth fixture in the UEFA Nations League groups, with a chance to qualify through to the next round.
For English fans, the mentioning of Spain as a footballing nation after the summer is not something that is well received. However, they are arguably the best side in the world right now.
Spain Predicted Line-up: David Raya; Alejandro Grimaldo, Aymeric Laporte, Dani Vivian, Pedro Porro; Fabián Ruiz, Martín Zubimendi; Mikel Oyarzabal, Pedri, Lamine Yamal; Alvaro Morata
Spain’s dominance at the Euro 2024 tournament has continued into their UEFA Nations League games. So far they’ve beaten Denmark and Switzerland whilst Tuesday's opposition remain the only side they’re yet to defeat in the groups.
The 0-0 draw last time out was a massive result for their opposition. However, now in front of a home crowd, there’s a strong chance that they could make it three wins on the bounce.
Midfielder Martin Zubimendi scored the only goal in their 1-0 win over Denmark last time, whilst Alejandro Grimaldo put on a quality performance.
The star player for Spain right now has to be Lamine Yamal. But they’re a nation that’s full of talent after just winning the European Championships.
Serbia Predicted Line-up: Predrag Rajković; Strahinja Pavlović, Nikola Milenković, Strahinja Eraković; Veljko Birmančević, Marko Grujić, Nemanja Maksimović, Kosta Nedeljković; Saša Lukić, Lazar Samardžić; Aleksandar Mitrović
Serbia’s 0-0 draw against Spain to kick-off the new Nations League season was a massive result for them. It means that now, they’re within touching distance of Denmark (who they lost to back in September) and still have every chance to qualify. They’re currently on four points whilst Denmark are on six. Spain will be a tough match, but at least they’ve given themselves a chance.
Remarkably the star man for Serbia is still Aleksander Mitrovic, although shockingly he is still only 30 years old. He scored the second goal against Switzerland in their last game and is a proven goal scorer across European football. If anyone will be able to break down the rigid Spain defence, it will be him. He has four goals in his last four games for club and country.
Before their recent Nations League meeting, these two sides have only played against each other once in their history. They drew 0-0 back in September but it was Spain that won 2-0 back in 2012, as Adrian and Santi Cazorla scored.
5th September 2024 - Serbia 0-0 Spain - UEFA Nations League
26th May 2012 - Spain 2-0 Serbia - International Friendly
We're backing Spain to win this game to nil. Through our bookmakers, you can get odds for this prediction of 6/5. Meaning, a £10 stake on this bet would return £22.
Spain are perhaps the best international team in the world at the moment. They are unbeaten in their last 13 matches and have continued their dominance since winning Euro 2024.
Serbia are not a free flowing team that loves to score. They have a poor recent record of finding the back of the next and now come up against one of the best defences in the world.
Spain 2-0 Serbia
