The first round of Champions League fixtures take place this week, and Stade Brest host their first ever game in the competition. The French side play Sturm Graz at the Stade Francis-Le Ble on Thursday and will be hoping to kick off their European campaign with a win.
After four games so far this season, Brest are currently 14th in the league with just three points. They haven't had the easiest fixtures, having played against Lens, Marseille and PSG, but the manner in which they lost those three games will have really disappointed their fans. The rest of their Champions League fixtures are quite difficult, as they have to face Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen, so a win here is vital.
Sturm Graz has a lot more European pedigree than their hosts on Thursday, having qualified for the Europa League in each of the last three seasons. They have also played in the Champions League group stage before, although that was back in the 2000/01 season. Sturm Graz are currently top of the Austrian Bundesliga, having won four of their five games this season. Their Champions League schedule looks easier than Brest’s however that does not mean that they will bring anything less than their best, which I think will be too much for the Champions League debutants.
Our team of experts have decided that the best tip for this game is for Sturm Graz to win. With 100/30 odds on Betfred, a £10 bet could see potential returns of £43.33.
The match kicks off at 8pm BST on Thursday 19th September. It is available to watch in the UK on TNT Sports.
