Football is back after a two week International Break and so here at Football Park we’re giving you a great tip for this Ligue 1 matchup between Stade Rennais and Montpellier.

Stade Rennais

Rennes got off to a great start to this season when they beat Lyon 3-0 at home on opening day of Ligue 1. Their next two results however were not ideal for them as they lost 3-1 to Strasbourg and 2-1 against Reims. Both of these matches took place on the road so fans can hope that they see another win as this match will be at Roazhon Park.

The win in Matchday One sees that they sit in 11th position and only six points behind current league leaders PSG, who have not dropped a point as of yet. This match is crucial to Rennes if they want to achieve their ambitions of making it back to the European competition places like they used to be able to do, last season being an anomaly.

Les Rouge et Noirs have lost a lot of key players during this summers transfer window. Massive young talent Désiré Doué has joined up with French giants PSG, midfielders Enzo La Fée and Benjamin Bourigeaud both left for Roma and Al-Duhail respectively. One more key player left as well. Martin Terrier moved to Germany to play for Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga. These players all might have left but Rennes are notorious for producing young stars and mix that in with the experienced players in the squad and there is not many reasons why one couldn’t see them getting back on track and finishing in the top four come the end of the season.

Montpellier

After back to back 12th place finishes in Ligue 1 over the last two seasons, Montpellier will be aiming to achieve better now that some of the global superstars have left and they will face slightly weaker opponents. It hasn’t been the case though, sharing a point with Strasbourg on opening day when they drew 1-1 when the final whistle blew. Over the last two years PSG have lost Neymar, Messi and Mbappe but that didn’t stop them handing out a 6-0 thrashing to Montpellier in their second game and it didn’t get better results wise the following week either. Nantes left victorious from their away trip, winning 1-3.

This match will be tough for La Paillade as their squad is riddled with injury at this moment in time. Unfortunately for them, they have a total of seven players unable to play. Kiki Kouyaté, Christopher Jullien, Issiaga Sylla, Joris Chotard, Lucas Mincarelli, Othamane Maamma and Théo Sainte-Luce are all on the sidelines as they have injuries forcing them to stay off the pitch. Having so many injuries is something that will not help Montpellier as they can’t start the players that they want and it makes it so that they cannot bring on a certain caliber of player of the bench to try and affect the game if they’re losing for example.
