Stockport County welcome Reading with the goal of bouncing back from their recent loss away to Lincoln City.
Stockport County Predicted Line-up: Corey Addai; Ethan Pye, Samuel Joseph Hughes, Callum Connolly; Ibou Touray, Nick Powell, Lewis Bate, Jayden Fevrier; Odin Bailey; Louie Barry, Isaac Olaofe
Stockport County were everyone’s dark horses to start the new season after a blistering 2023/24 League Two campaign. They were initially challenging for the top two places but after 12 games found themselves 12th with four wins, six draws and two losses.
In the larger picture, a 12th place finish this year would actually be very impressive considering their recent promotion.
When it comes to home form, Dave Challinor’s side have just lost just two of their last 10 matches in front of their own crowd.
Reading Predicted Line-up: Joel Castro Pereira; Andre Garcia, Tyler Bindon, Amadou Mbengue, Michael Craig; Harvey Knibbs, Lewis Wing, Ben Elliott; Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan, Sam Smith, Mamadi Camará
The job that Ruben Selles is doing in charge of Reading considering the financial constraints at the club is simply outstanding. They’re 6th in the league after 12 games and just four points off the top two.
They’ve also won their last three games in a row and haven’t conceded more than one goal in any of their last six games.
Away from home though, it’s not looking good. They have just one victory in all of their five away league games so far and find themselves 21st in the away form table in the third tier.
This match will be the first time that these two sides have met since 1998, when both of them were playing in the Championship (second tier).
3rd March 1998 - Stockport County 5-1 Reading - Championship
8th November 1997 - Reading 1-0 Stockport County - Championship**
We’re backing a draw between these two sides. Through our bookmakers, you can get odds as good as 11/4 which would return £37.50 from a £10 stake if successful.
It’s very tough to try and pull these sides apart. On the one hand, Reading have been flying for three games straight, but are awful against strong teams away from home. Whereas Stockport County possess some of the best attacking players in the league.
