Sunderland vs Burnley Betting Tips & Predictions

Burnley come into this game off the back of two very good results. They thrashed Luton Town in their own backyard in the opening game 4-1, followed by a 5-0 at home to Cardiff last weekend. They have a manager who is a proven quantity in the Championship, and a very talented squad.

Burnley stats so far in 2024/24:

  • Have scored the most goals in the league (9)
  • Have conceded just once (only four other sides in the league have done the same/better)
  • Have the highest goal difference in the league (+8)
  • Have score the most non-penalty goals in the league (8)

Scott Parker’s side now arguably face their toughest test so far against Sunderland, who are the only side not to concede a goal yet this season. However, we think Burnley’s thrashing away to Luton to start the season was clear evidence that they can handle things even against the top sides.

Whilst there is plenty to get excited about with this Sunderland side, Patrick Roberts is the only player to have played in the Premier League in the starting side that beat Sheffield Wednesday last week. Meanwhile, 9 of the players that started against Cardiff for Burnley have played in the English top-flight before.

However, Sunderland do have a lot of potential goalscorers in their side. Eliezer Mayenda looked very good with two goals in their last game. Jack Clarke and Patrick Roberts are always a threat and their midfield trio of Bellingham, Rigg and Neil is extremely dynamic. One lapse of concentration from Burnley could see them concede.
