The EFL Championship is arguably the best league in the world, and it’s no surprise given that just eight points come between 22nd and 4th position.
We’re taking a look at Saturday’s action, as Regis Le Bris’s Sunderland host manager-less Coventry City.
Sunderland will certainly be the happier of the two sides prior to the game, they’re topping the standings right now.
Coventry, not so much. They’re sat 17th and have controversially dismissed heroic manager Mark Robins.
Sunderland Predicted Line-up - Simon Moore; Dennis Cirkin, Luke O’Nien, Chris Mepham, Trai Hume; Alan Browne, Dan Neil; Romaine Mundle, Chris Rigg, Wilson Isidor; Eliezer Mayenda
Sunderland have been fantastic so far this season, as their league position suggests. They’ve got the best goal difference in the league, and have dominated sides across the entire campaign.
They have drawn their last two matches 0-0, but that could be seen as a testament to the Black Cats, given teams have to set up in such a defensive structure against them.
Young Chris Rigg will be looking to add to his three goals already from midfield this season.
Coventry City Predicted Line-up - Oliver Dovin; Joel Latibeaudiere, Bobby Thomas, Luis Binks; Jack Rudoni, Ben Sheaf, Tatsuhiro Sakamota, Josh Eccles, Milan van Ewijk; Brandon Thomas-Asante, Haji Wright
Coventry have really disappointed so far this season, in a way they haven’t hit their stride since the 2023 play off final.
That being said, Mark Robin was a legend in Coventry, and he’ll be sorely missed. Due to his dismissal, it’s really hard to predict what Coventry are going to do here.
That being said, Haji Wright has looked clinical so far this season.
These two sides have met 20 times since 1996. Of their meetings, Sunderland have won four, and Coventry have won eight.
Eight matches have resulted in a draw.
23rd December 2023 - Sunderland 0-3 Coventry - Championship
26th August 2023 - Coventry 0-0 Sunderland - Championship
25th February 2023 - Coventry 2-1 Sunderland - Championship
31st July 2022 - Sunderland 1-1 Coventry - Championship
1st March 2020 - Coventry 1-0 Sunderland - League One
Whilst Coventry are very hard to predict due to their sacking of Mark Robins, I still think the quality of Sunderland will see them through.
Coventry have looked hopeless in some games this season, whilst Sunderland have been fantastic.
Overall we think the best bet to place for this game would be Sunderland to win, backed up by our research.
Odds of 6/5 on QuinnBet mean that a £10 bet has the potential to return up to £22 in this match.
(odds subject to change)
Sunderland 2-0 Coventry City
Sunderland will continue their dominance in the Championship this season.
The night before, Watford host Oxford United.
