On Friday 4th October 2024, the EFL Championship season continues with arguably the biggest game of the weekend's action. We are being treated to a battle between 1st and 4th as Sunderland host Leeds United at the Stadium of Light.
The biggest game of the EFL Championship weekend is sure to be exciting as Sunderland take on Leeds United in what is a must win game for both teams. Especially looking towards the end of the season (even at this early stage).
Sunderland Predicted Lineup - Anthony Patterson; Dennis Cirkin, Luke O'Nien, Chris Mepham, Trai Hume; Jobe Bellingham, Dan Neil, Chris Rigg; Romaine Mundle, Wilson Isidor, Patrick Roberts
Sunderland have been flying at the moment. After a 2-0 win over Derby County earlier in the week they sit top of the Championship table and are looking like the team to beat right now.
Not only this but they have proven a threat going forward having scored 16 goals in eight games this season with more goals surely to come.
Leeds United Predicted Lineup - Illan Meslier; Junior Firpo, Pascal Struijk, Joe Rodon, Jayden Bogle; Ao Tanaka, Ilia Gruev; Largie Ramazani, Brenden Aaronson, Wilfried Gnonto; Mateo Joseph
By their standards Leeds had a bit of a slow start to the season but that seems as though it is beginning to turn around for them. They currently are sat in 4th place from 15 games played and are slowly but surely making strides towards the top of the table again. After all they are just three points off top spot.
Interestingly they have scored 13 and conceded just five goals giving them the second best goal difference in the league. Something that could come in handy for the later stages of the season.
If they can continue their good form as of late it could be no time before Leeds are top of the Championship table again.
Sunderland and Leeds have already played each other 100 times in their histories.
As of right now Leeds hold the advantage with 40 wins to their names. This to Sunderland’s 35 wins and 20 draws.
However two of the last three games between them have ended in draws including in their most recent fixture back in April which ended 0-0. This is often a very close game. Will we see a similar story in this one?
9th April 2024 - Leeds United 0-0 Sunderland - EFL Championship
12th December 2023 - Sunderland 1-0 Leeds United - EFL Championship
7th April 2018 - Leeds United 1-1 Sunderland - EFL Championship
19th August 2017 - Sunderland 0-2 Leeds United - EFL Championship
4th January 2015 - Sunderland 1-0 Leeds United - FA Cup
This is bound to be a very exciting game with the promise of goals with both teams' attacking output being so high so far this season. However, not much separates the two teams so we aren’t sure that one team has the advantage over the other.
Therefore, our team of professional tipping experts are backing odds of 17/5 for a Draw and Both Teams To Score in this fixture. These odds mean that £10 has the potential to return up to £44.
(Odds subject to change)
Sunderland 1-1 Leeds United
Both teams are performing up to a very high standard and will be desperate to win this game. Expect goals but don’t expect one team to get the better of the other too easily. This will probably end in a goals draw.
