Given our keen interest in the lower tiers of English football, it’s only right that we at Football Park take a gander at the first round of the FA Cup.
Steve Morrison’s Sutton United, who compete in the National League, host Chris Davies’ League One Birmingham City.
It’s tough to really compare these sides, given the huge gap in standard of their leagues, but that’s why we love the FA Cup.
Birmingham City are coasting through League One, and look set to return to the Championship. Sutton United are twelfth in the National League.
Sutton United Predicted Line-up - Jack Sims; Josh Coley, Tyler French, Alex Kirk, Charlie Waller; Siju Odelusi, Eduino Vaz, Jeremmy Sivi, Ashley Nadesan, Dillon De Silva; Will Davies
Sutton United haven’t had the greatest start to the season so far, sitting 12th in the National League.
They did win 1-0 last time out, thanks to a Will Davies goal in the first half. However, their form has been pretty inconsistent over the course of the season.
Josh Coley has been excellent on the right flank, adding plenty of quality in both attacking and defensive positions.
Birmingham City Predicted Line-up - Ryan Allsopp; Ethan Laird, Christoph Klarer, Ben Davies, Alex Cochrane; Seung-Ho Paik, Tomoki Iwata, Willum Thor Willumsson, Keshi Anderson, Alfie May; Jay Stansfield
Birmingham City are flying in the third tier of English football, so will certainly back themselves to grab a result here.
They spent big in the summer, and their performances on the pitch are proving their decisions correct. They won 7-1 over Fulham U21’s last time out.
Both Alfie May and Jay Stansfield have been clinical this season, and they’ll be looking to add more goals to their collection.
These two sides have actually never faced each other, at least not in a recorded fixture.
Whilst Sutton will likely try and rise to this huge occasion at home, it’s unlikely they’ll be able to lay a finger on Birmingham.
The away side are just far to strong, and their players will simply outclass Sutton in all areas.
Overall we think the best bet to place for this game would be half time Birmingham, full time Birmingham, backed up by our research.
Odds of 5/6 on QuinnBet mean that a £10 bet has the potential to return up to £18.34 in this match.
(odds subject to change)
Sutton United 0-3 Birmingham City
Birmingham will kick off their FA Cup campaign with a convincing win.
Elsewhere in the FA Cup, MK Dons take on AFC Wimbledon.
