This Sunday’s Premier League action sees Liverpool make the trip to face Tottenham Hotspur at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. This is a big match given that Liverpool have a game in hand to second place and will be desperate to extend their gap, trying to clinch the Premier League title a little earlier than the end of the season.
Liverpool come into this game in flying form, top of the Premier League table with a gap of two points to second place. Tottenham Hotspur are coming into this game after a huge result in their last, a 0-5 first half thrashing of Southampton. They have had some good performances in across their five most recent games in all competitions, including a 4-3 thriller against one of Liverpool’s biggest rivals Manchester United in the Carabao Cup, earning themselves a tie with their opponents in this Sunday’s match.
Tottenham Hotspur have had a decent start to the season, finding themselves in the mid-table places so early on in the campaign. After 16 games they sit in 10th place with seven wins, seven losses and two draws. Those matches have left them with 23 points, sharing the same number with two other teams but goal difference the defining factor as to why they are not lower down. A win would give them the potential to climb to as high as seventh depending on other results so “Big Ange” will definitely be fielding a strong side. In the goals for Spurs has been the duo of James Maddison and captain Heung-min Son. Between the two of them, they have produced 11 goal contributions each. Combining those numbers, they have been responsible for 22 out of the 36 goals Tottenham have scored this season. With the majority of the London based club’s goals coming from them, they will be the best options for Spuds in their efforts of snatching something from this game on Sunday.
Liverpool have had an excellent start to the season, finding themselves as league leaders so early on in the campaign. After 15 games they sit in first place with 11 wins, one loss and three draws. Those matches have left them with 36 points, holding an two point gap to second placed Chelsea and with a game in hand due to the postponement of the Merseyside derby. In the goals for The Reds has been the unstoppable force of Mohamed Salah, having a Balon D’Or worthy season. The Egyptian has found the back of the net 13 times this season, the highest tally out of all the players in the Premier League. It hasn’t just been the spectacular goal output for Salah like it usually is, but Salah has been a provider for nine assists to his teammates. He has been directly involved in 22 out of the 31 goals that Liverpool have scored this season, making him irreplaceable. He will most probably be the star of the show once more on Sunday.
The last five faceoffs have been split in the favour of Liverpool. This Sunday should keep it that way as Liverpool have only lost once this season, still performing at the highest level from day one of the campaign.
