This Wednesday’s Premier League clash sees Manchester City make the trip to face Tottenham Hotspur at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. This is a big match for the away side as they have lost their last two matches in a row so a win will be crucial for them.
Both teams come into this game in hit and miss form, but it is Tottenham Hotspur that has been slightly better over their last five games. They have lost twice and won their remaining three matches, including a back-to-back winning streak before this match. Manchester City on the other hand have been the reverse of Tottenham. City have lost three games, winning twice with two of those losses coming in their last two games. The pair of these teams are still suffering with a majorly long injury list so it will be a struggle for Ange Postecoglou and Pep Guardiola to field their strongest lineups. This Wednesday’s match should be an interesting one with a lot on the line for Manchester City, potentially losing out on a UEFA Champions League place with a defeat.
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Tottenham Hotspur Predicted Line-Up: Guglielmo Vicario; Djed Spence, Ben Davies, Kevin Danso, Pedro Porro; Pape Matar Sarr, Rodrigo Bentancur, James Maddison; Heung-min Son (c), Brennan Johnson, Dejan Kulusevski
Finally back into the starting lineup in the Premier League for the first time in a month, Brennan Johnson made the most of it, scoring a brace in a 1-4 win against his father’s former club Ipswich Town. That win now has Tottenham Hotspur on a three-game winning streak in the Premier League, holding 12th place with 10 wins, 13 losses and three draws across the 26 matches they’ve played. Picking up 33 points, they share that tally with fellow London side Crystal Palace who reside in 13th, so goal difference is the reason they are not lower down the standings.
The last time that Spurs were able to win four Premier League games in a row was all the way back in October of 2023. Someone that could help in matching that achievement is winger and club captain Heung-min Son who has racked up 15 goal contributions, split into six goals and nine assists. Not far behind that total is James Maddison with 14, adding to his numbers on Saturday when he came off the bench to deliver an assist. As a club Spurs have scored in their last 18 matches at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium so there is an opportunity for them to increase their stats this Wednesday.
Formation: 4-1-4-1
Manchester City Predicted Line-Up: Ederson; Josko Gvardiol, Rúben Dias, Abdukodir Khusanov, Rico Lewis; Nico González; Jérémy Doku, Phil Foden, Kevin De Bruyne (c), Savinho; Omar Marmoush
Manchester City’s defeat on Sunday saw that Liverpool were victorious over them in both of their meetings this season, home and away. They dominated the display with their 66% possession, but they still couldn’t stop Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai combining to assist each other for both Liverpool goals. Erling Haaland’s absence was notable and with him not fully fit for this match, there is a possibility that Manchester City suffer their fourth defeat in five games across all competitions.
Despite the lack of victories recently, they sit amongst the UEFA Champions League spot in fourth place in the Premier League table. In 26 games they have amassed 13 wins, eight losses and five draws which has led them to be on 44 points, sharing that tally with Newcastle United but their goal difference keeps them in the elite European tournament positions.
Stepping up this season for The Sky Blues has obviously been striker Erling Haaland, putting his name upon the scoresheet 19 times in the 25 matches he has featured in, as well as providing three assists. With him most likely being unavailable this Wednesday, January transfer window acquisition Omar Marmoush will have to fill in for him as the difference maker. The Egyptian has looked impressive in the four Premier League games he’s played as well as bagging a hattrick against Newcastle in that time frame.
The last five faceoffs have been split in the favour of neither side with Tottenham and Man City winning two games each and drawing in the remaining match. This Wednesday is a difficult match to predict with Tottenham being a sort of bogey team for Manchester City to come up against.

Despite Tottenham winning their last three Premier League games, they will struggle playing against tougher opposition. Manchester City haven’t been lucky with injuries, like Spurs but they have been playing much better football than Tottenham as of late.
For that reason, our betting experts have gone with Manchester City To Win as our best value tip for this game.
Odds of 1/1 mean that a £10 bet has the potential to return up to £20.40 in this match.
(odds subject to change)
Tottenham Hotspur 1-2 Manchester City
Tottenham have done well in the attacking third recently, picking up eight goals from their last five matches. An extra day’s rest for them might do Spurs good, letting their front three be in the best possible shape to take on reigning champions Manchester City. The absence of Erling Haaland might give Tottenham Hotspur a false sense of confidence as City still have an elite front line.
