This midweek tie sees two clubs on the outskirts of the fight for a European spot go head to head. Wolfsburg and Borussia Monchengladbach currently have exactly the same points total of 24 after 16 games. Now nearing the halfway point of the season a win is vital to make sure they do not slip too far away from the top half of the table.
With Wolfsburg in 10th and Gladbach in 11th this is a very ‘mid-table’ esque tie. With neither side worried about dropping any lower in the table (Union Berlin in 12th are 7 points adrift from 11th) we should have quite a fun game on our hands. Gladbach’s tough defense will be put to the test by a Wolfsburg side that have only lost to Dortmund in their last home 6 games.
Line Up (4-3-3): Kamil Grabara, Kilian Fischer, Denis Vavro, Konstantinos Koulierakis, Joakim Maehle, Bence Dardai, Maximilian Arnold, Yannick Gerhardt, Patrick Wimmer, Jonas Wind, Jakub Kaminski
Wolfsburg successfully won away at Hoffenheim last weekend and kept a clean sheet so will be looking to build on their success in this upcoming fixture. As one of the top scorers in the league, the Wolves manage to spread the goals amongst their squad well with 8 players scoring 2+ Bundesliga goals before the season's halfway point. They, unfortunately, will be without the winning goalscorer from the Hoffenheim match, Mohamed Amoura, after he was subbed off due to injury, he was also the club’s joint top 24/25 Bundesliga goalscorer.
With Amoura and Tiago Tomas unavailable pressure will be on Jonas Wind to score the goals for Wolfsburg. With 8 in all competitions so far he will be the only player in the squad with over 2 goals therefore if anyone is going to score it’ll likely be him.
Line Up (4-2-3-1): Moritz Nicolas, Joe Scally, Ko Itakura, Nico Elvedi, Lukas Ullrich, Julian Weigl, Philipp Sander, Robin Hack, Alassane Plea, Rocco Reitz, Tim Kleindienst
Despite being 11th, Gladbach are just 4 points away from 5th and Europa League football. They did well defensively last game to reduce Bayerns efforts to just one goal. Currently, though their form is very average, the visitors have struggled on the road for some time considering they have been beaten on four occasions, been held to a stalemate twice and triumphed in just one of their seven most recent away games.
Whilst target man Kleindienst is an obvious player to watch, with 15 goal contributions in all competitions, club veteran Alassane Plea is also worth watching, now into his 7th year at the club the Frenchman has scored over 50 Bundesliga goals for his team and is looking to have one of his best seasons yet with 7 goals and 3 assists in all competitions.
Both clubs are Bundesliga mainstays so face each other on a yearly basis, in the last 38 meetings it is relatively even, with Wolfsburg winning 15, Gladbach winning 12 as well as 11 draws.
With Wolfsburg’s strength at home and fine goalscoring form, they will edge the win in this game. That being said there will be plenty of goals on display so for that reason our betting experts have gone with Wolfsburg to win + Both Teams To Score as our best value tip for this game.
Odds of 23/10 mean that a £10 bet has the potential to return up to £33 in this match.
