Walsall welcome Leicester City to their Bescot Stadium with an eye on creating a cup run to remember. Meanwhile, Leicester City have only won whilst playing in the EFL Cup this season, and will be desperate for that trend to continue.
Walsall are one of the standout teams in the 4th tier so far in 2024/25. Meanwhile, Leicester City look somewhat lost in the Premier League.
Possible Line-up: Sam Hornby; Evan Weir, Taylor Allen, Harry Williams, David Okagbue, Connor Barrett; Jack Earing, Ryan Stirk, Jamie Jellis; George Hall, Nathan Lowe.
Walsall are currently 3rd in League Two and fresh off the back of a 2-0 away win against Salford City at the weekend. Manager Mat Sadler has got the Saddlers playing some sensational football this season. They’ve won five of their opening seven games and are just one point off first place.
At home they have been unstoppable. In six home games since the competitive campaign began, they won all six of them. Two of which were in the EFL Cup. If Walsall were ever going to cause a shock defeat to a Premier League side, there might not be a better opportunity to do it.
This season the standout player has arguably been Taylor Allen. The left-back of all positions has three goals and 1 assist in League Two so far.
Possible Line-up: Mads Hermansen; Victor Kristiansen, Caleb Okoli, Wout Faes, James Justin; Oliver Skipp, Harry Winks; Jordan Ayew, Wilfred Ndidi, Abdul Fatawu; Jamie Vardy.
Leicester City are understandably struggling in the Premier League so far in 2024/25. They have not won a game aside from their last fixture in the EFL Cup.
They have drawn three and lost two of their first five league games. However, considering they are three divisions higher than Walsall, they should have more than enough quality to see thai result out and get back to winning ways.
Wilfrid Ndidi has been a strong player for Leicester City so far, as he has been in many seasons at the club. Meanwhile, a 37-year-old Jamie Vardy has two Premier League goals.
These two sides actually met just last year in the FA Cup. Leicester came away with the win in that game as Kelechi Iheanacho grabbed the winner.
In history they have met five teams in competitive history. Leicester won four of them and drew the other. Walsall have never beaten Leicester City in a competitive game.
We’re backing Leicester City to win this game, for both teams to score and for there to be over 3.5 goals scored by both teams combined. Leicester City will run out as the clear winners with their superior quality of players. But, they have conceded a goal in every game that they’ve played so far, aside from their EFL Cup victory. They have a leaky defence right now, but will manage to outscore the home side by a big margin.
Through our bookmakers, you can get odds of 3/1 for this prediction. A £10 state on this bet would return £40.
Walsall 1-3 Leicester City
Steve Cooper will need this victory desperately for Leicester they have a slim chance of winning the whole competition, a win is always good for the feel around the club, with a difficult season up-ahead.
