There are some interesting subplots emerging in the Bundesliga this season, especially as the spots towards the middle of the table are so congested. Wolfsburg are one of the teams in a battle for European football while their opponents this weekend, Holstein Kiel, are battling to avoid relegation.
Wolfsburg are on a push for European football, however the same can be said about every team between sixth and 11th place in the table. Despite losing three of their last five, Wolfsburg are currently in seventh place and just a single point of European football. Their recent dip in form has coincided with the other European contenders also dropping points against teams lower in the table.
Holstein Kiel have reignited their survival hopes as of late with two wins in their last five, moving them within three points of Heidenheim. They struggle defensively, but in front of goal they can be devastating, so this match could be an end-to-end affair. Bochum, who are one point below them, have also recently experienced a revival, demonstrating the competitiveness of the Bundesliga.
Wolfsburg Predicted Lineup - Kamil Grabara; Joakim Maehle, Konstantinos Koulierakis, Denis Vavro, Kilian Fischer; Maximilian Arnold; Yannick Gerhardt, Bence Dardai, Patrick Wimmer; Mohamed Amoura, Lukas Nmecha
Wolfsburg have a strong team that, last time out, took Bayern all the way until the final whistle, only losing by a single goal. A lot of their players you have probably heard of if you have a keen interest in football with Joakim Maehle and Denis Vavro performing admirably in the 2020 and 2024 Euros respectively. Mohamed Amoura has been excellent up top this season, scoring eight goals and registering six assists in the league. He joined on loan from Union Saint-Gilloise in the summer, but his performances will more than likely earn him a permanent contract.
Holstein Kiel Predicted Lineup - Timon Weiner; Max Geschwill, David Zec, Marko Ivezic; Finn Porath, Nicolai Remberg, Magnus Knudsen, Lasse Rosenboom; Shuto Machino, Alexander Bernhardsson; Phil Harres
Holstein Kiel’s problems this season have come from their inability to keep the ball out of the back of their net, which is why they have signed a new centre back, David Zec, in this January transfer window. He joined from Celje in the Slovenian League and has played three Bundesliga matches so far. In the attack, both Shuto Machino and Phil Harres have scored seven league goals which is very good for a team as far down the table as they are. Both of these players will be looking to inflict damage onto their hosts on Friday.
In competitive fixtures, these two sides have only played three times before, one of which came earlier this season. In all of these matches, Wolfsburg have come out on top and Holstein Kiel have barely been able to lay a glove on them. Two quickfire goals back in August was enough to give Wolfsburg a comfortable win.
31st Aug 2024 - Holstein Kiel 0-2 Wolfsburg - Bundesliga
21st May 2018 - Holstein Kiel 0-1 Wolfsburg - Bundesliga Relegation Playoff
17th May 2018 - Wolfsburg 3-1 Holstein Kiel - Bundesliga Relegation Playoff
Wolfsburg are a strong team and they are pushing Europe this season, while Holstein Kiel are down near the bottom of the table. Having lost their last game, the home team will be looking for a response and Holstein Kiel are the perfect team to play. They concede a lot and while their attack is quite good, it will be nowhere good enough to beat Wolfsburg.
With all of this in mind, our team of professional experts have decided that the best tip for this game is for Wolfsburg to Win + Over 2.5 Goals. Odds of 10/11 on Quinnbet means that a £10 bet could see a potential return of £19.09.
(odds subject to change)
Wolfsburg 3-1 Holstein Kiel
