The Premier League returns following the international break this weekend with Sunday playing host to a number of intriguing fixtures. One of which sees Wolverhampton Wanderers host Newcastle United.
These two sides have faced off against one another 107 times in their histories prior to this match.
Wolves have the advantage having won 42 of those games to Newcastle’s 35 wins. There have also been 30 draws in that time.
Despite that Newcastle are unbeaten in the last 5 games against Wolves. Wolves’ last win coming back in October 2021. Will Newcastle’s streak continue here?
Both teams come into this game with a number of absentees.
Wolves will be without Sasa Kalajdzic, Enso Gonzalez and Boubacar Traore through injury with Yerson Mosquera also a doubt.
Eddie Howe’s men on the other hand will remain without Sven Botman, Jamaal Lascelles, Lewis Miley, Callum Wilson and Joe Willock. However they could see returns for both Fabian Schar following his suspension and Sandro Tonali who returns following his betting ban.
Wolverhampton Wanderers - Sam Johnstone, Nelson Semedo, Yerson Mosquera, Craig Dawson, Toti, Jean-Ricner Bellegarde, Joao Gomes, Mario Lemina, Rayan Ait-Nouri, Matheus Cunha, Jorgen Strand Larsen
Newcastle United - Nick Pope, Kieran Trippier, Fabian Schar, Dan Burn, Tino Livramento, Sean Longstaff, Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton, Anthony Gordon, Alexander Isak, Harvey Barnes
One man that proves a constant threat for Newcastle is their ain man up front Alexander Isak and we would expect him to have an impact in this one as well.
Isak may not have started this season unbelievably but he does have 1 goal in the opening 3 games of the season. And if he can find his form from last season, which saw him score 21 Premier League goals, he is sure to get on the scoresheet here. Especially against a Wolves side that tend to concede goals.
Look out for the big Swede in this one.
Coming into this game both sides are surprisingly evenly matched. With nothing major setting one side apart from the other.
Newcastle on paper are certainly the stronger team but they don’t tend to score too many goals.
If Wolves can stay composed and play in a controlled manner they may get something from this game.
That is why we are backing a Draw in this game. And at odds of 11/4, £10 has the potential to return up to £37.50 in this game.
Wolves vs Newcastle United is set to get underway at 16:30 pm on Sunday 15th September 2024. You can check out all of the action live on Sky Sports Premier League.
