York City vs Eastleigh Prediction and Tips - Odds, H2H, and Preview
A big weekend in the National League is headlined by a crunch face-off between 2nd placed surprise packages York City and 7th place play-off pursuing Eastleigh, in a game in which a win for either side could propel them out of reach of their nearby competitors.
With York and Barnet 3 points clear of third place, and Eastleigh four points clear of Dagenham and Redbridge in 8th, both sides would love to take away from the LNER Community Stadium.
With the game set to have big ramifications for the order of the National League, here is everything you need to know ahead of the match.
York City Predicted Lineup (4-3-3): Rory Watson (GK); Ryan Fallowfield, Callum Howe, Malachi Walcott, Joe Felix; Ricky Aguiar, Marvin Armstrong, Alex Hunt; Tyrese Sinclair, Ollie Pearce, Ashley Nathaniel-George.
York have been superb in the first quarter of the season, and their current position of second is even more impressive when you consider where they finished last campaign. Finishing 20th, a single point above relegated Boreham Wood, no one expected York to place better than lower mid-table in 2024/25.
However, they have flummoxed opponents so far, who perhaps kicked off underestimating their opposite numbers. With their outstanding defensive record, I don’t see Eastleigh creating a whole lot when they travel to Yorkshire.
Eastleigh Predicted Lineup (4-4-2): Joe McDonnell (GK); Niall Maher, Richard Brindley, Luis Fernandez, Tyrese Schade; Jake Vokins, Lloyd Humphries, Angel Waruih, Jake Taylor; Paul McCallum, Chris Maguire.
Eastleigh have also looked like an improved side from last season, albeit not even close to the extent to which their opponents have progressed.
Finishing 13th last season, it was very much a middle of the road campaign for Eastleigh, who after the final gameweek had conceded the second most goals of anyone in the league, leaking 87.
However, they have cleaned up their act at the back in the early stages of this season, and have become more reliable in front of goal with the help of Paul McCallum. However, they have won just one of their last four, and will be hard pushed to get back to winning ways here.
Last five meetings:
Historical Head to Head - York: 1. Drawn: 1. Eastleigh: 4.
York come into this game in far better form than their opponents, buoyed by their lofty league position and the unexpected turn around from last season.
Having won 5 of their last 6, York are the odds on favorites to take another three points from this game, and while Eastleigh are an improving side, a test against the second best team in the league may prove to be too tough a test for them at this moment in time.
York 2-0 Eastleigh
With the streak of clean sheets and their track record of scoring one goal in all of their previous five wins, York will dominate this game from start to finish, with Eastleigh occasionally hitting them on the counter attack but threatening rarely.
A win will see York move to the top of the National League should Barnet fail to win by 2 or more goals at home to Fylde.
