Following York City’s agonizing exit from the FA Cup at the weekend, they will have their full focus set on promotion from the National League.
Currently top of the table, and boasting the best defence in the division, York are certainly favorites for the title, and this weekend have 15th placed Hartlepool United placed in their way.
Hartlepool didn’t get past the qualifying stages for the FA Cup, and so have not played a competitive game since October 26th, a win over Aldershot. The extra week's break will have given the players a well needed rest, and they will have fresh legs for the uphill battle that York poses.
As the game approaches, here is everything you need to know about both sides ahead of kick-off.
York City Predicted Lineup (4-2-3-1): Harrison Male (GK); Malachi Walcott, Callum Howe, Daniel Batty. Ryan Fallowfield; Joe Felix, Alex Hunt; Tyrese Sinclair, Marvin Armstrong, Luca Thomas; Ollie Pearce.
Despite defeat to Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday, York City can consider themselves unfortunate to be out of the FA Cup. They proved to be a stiff challenge for the League One side, and despite not holding the lead at any point, they did bring the deficit back to one twice.
Tyrese Sinclair in particular stamped his authority on the match, providing a constant threat down the left, and topping it off with York’s first goal of the game, a wonderful 25 yard curler into the top corner.
It was a strike worthy of winning the game, and when Joe Felix grabbed their second in the 90+4th minute, York piled on the pressure. A flurry of chances came their way, but careless finishing cost them, and allowed Wycombe to scrape into the next round.
However, the performance will have buoyed York, and they now have the belief that they can push top teams two divisions above them to the limit. Hartlepool shouldn’t prove to be an issue.
Hartlepool United Predicted Lineup (4-5-1): Brad Young (GK); David Ferguson, Tom Parkes, Billy Sass-Davis, Daniel Dodds; Joe Grey, Nicky Featherstone, Adam Campbell, Nathan Sheron, Nathan Asiimwe; Emmanuel Dieseruvwe.
After a poor start to the season saw them drop to 18th place, Hartlepool seemed to have pulled their act together in recent weeks, and have strung together a run of four league matches without defeat.
After finishing 12th in the National League last season, Hartlepool will be harboring similar ambitions for this season, and their recent run has put them back on track to achieving this. However, with the Juggernaut that is York City in their way, it would be an almighty shock if they were able to maintain their unbeaten streak.
However, with the nature of their performances improving in recent weeks, Hartlepool should at least be able to give a good account of themselves.

Despite Hartlepool’s recent upturn in results, the outcome here is elementary.
York City are a cut above everyone else in the league, and with the tightest defense in the league, will suffocate any Hartlepool attack and quickly extinguish hope both on and off the field.
York City 3-0 Hartlepool
It will be a straightforward three goal margin and clean sheet here for York, and the game poses as a good chance to rehearse for their following fixture against second placed Forest Green Rovers, a match which will have significant consequences on the title race.
