3 Players At The Euros That Are Perfect Candidates For Liverpool

Liverpool are going into this season with new manager Arne Slot after the news that Jurgen Klopp decided to leave the club after almost nine years in charge.

With this, new players are likely to come in and we’re hear to suggest some player at this year’s Euros who could make the move to Merseyside.

Alessandro Bastoni

Italy and Inter Milan centre back would be a great fit for Liverpool.

With Joel Matip leaving after not renewing his contract and Virgil Van Dijk getting older, Bastoni is a young defender who would suit the style of play that Slot likes to use.

Across the top five leagues, he is the one of the best at progressive carries averaging 2.24 per 90 minutes and 2.80 progressive passes received, making him the number one spot for that statistic.

Arne Slot will probably rely heavily on his full backs meaning Andrew Roberston will bombing up and down the field, leaving Bastoni to cover. As a naturally left footed defender it means that he can find Roberston a lot easier than Konate or Van Dijk because it lets Robertson to receive the ball on the run, without having to break stride or take a touch.

After a loan move to Parma in 2018 he has solidified his place in the Inter Milan starting 11 also gaining 24 appearances for Italy.

Most recently he scored in Italy’s opening game of Euro 2024 against Albania. His headed goal from a corner and the fact that he stands at 1.9 metres tall, shows that he is a threat from set pieces. This will be a significant help as when you have Trent Alexander-Arnold delivering crosses in, then that doesn’t hurt.

He is valued, according to Transfermarkt, at €70 million but I believe that Liverpool should go for it as they have spent similar money on centre back before and Van Dijk didn’t turn out too bad, did he?

João Palhinha

Liverpool went through a much needed rebuild in midfield last season, but a long term defensive midfielder is a position they can improve on as because of his age. Wataru Endo won’t stay in that starting role for long.

He had the chance to go to Bayern Munich last year but unfortunately for him the move fell through so this year, Fulham’s Joao Palhinha is a must for Liverpool.

The Portuguese international was officially the Premier League’s leading tackler with 152, 24 successful tackles clear of second place. Over the last 365 days he averages 5.07 tackles and 1.90 blocks per 90 compared to Endo’s 2.38 and 1.29.

€55 million is the fee according to Transfermarkt and the Reds should be happy to pay for that as since Fabinho started to drop off in form, they haven’t fully been able to replace him with someone with the same output.

Slot will like the fact that he is Premier League proven and won’t have that adjustment period to settle into a new league like Endo had or heavily linked Feyenoord Mats Wieffer, someone who played under Arne Slot last year.

Palhinha is the step up that Liverpool need if they want to win any of the four competitions they are in this season.

Leroy Sané

German winger Leroy Sané would be a valuable player for Liverpool.

Mohamed Salah has one year left on his contract, and he has been linked with a move away to Saudi Arabia for the last two transfer windows so now would be the perfect time to swoop in for the Bayern Munich man.

He averages an impressive 5.42 shot creating actions and 3.77 successful take-ons per 90. Sané achieved 10 goals and 13 assists in all competitions despite missing 11 games last season.

Leroy Sané is most known for his pace and his excellent pressing ability, showing the same traits that Salah possess. This will allow a smooth transition to replace the Egyptian and once he gets into the swing of things, the great performances will also start to rack up.

With Salah being a key part of the way Liverpool play, Slot will like someone who has a similar style, and it helps that Salah is four years Sané’s senior.

He is someone that will win a lot of fouls in dangerous areas of the pitch, giving Liverpool multiple scoring opportunities from the resulting set pieces.

With a market value of €70 million this could suit Liverpool. Liverpool are a club that don’t like to overpay with players and are great at getting profits from selling on players. If Salah does go this summer, he should cost well over what the potential Sané deal would, giving them money to make more transfers without breaking financial fair play rules.
