3 Players Who Could Leave La Liga This Summer

When you think of La Liga, you think of Real Madrid and Barcelona. I know I do. I think of the Galacticos, of MSN and Cristiano Ronaldo ditching Old Trafford for the Bernabeu.

However, over the years La Liga has produced some incredible talent. Huge transfer fees have been exchanged, like Kepa Arrizabalaga’s €80 million move to Chelsea. Players like Rodri have packed their bags and headed to England and completely changed the course of history.

So which players might make the decision to leave sunny Spain this summer?

Youssef En-Nesyri

Youssef En-Nesyri is one of those names that's always chucked about.

I always hear people talk about him in transfer conversations, yet he’s not moved from Spain once in his professional career.

En-Nesyri is a talented and versatile attacker, capable of operating in plenty of different ways in the attacking third. Catching headlines during Morocco's excellent run in the 2022 World Cup, En-Nesyri has proved he is capable at the top level of football.

His poaching instincts have earned him a respectable 16 goals in La Liga this season, and since Sevilla have faced a harsh decline in the last few years, I could see now being the time the Moroccan moves on.

Tottenham are showing interest in him and it seems a fee of €30 million would be enough to secure his services.

Aleix Garcia

Girona have had a mind boggling season. In their second successive season in La Liga they managed to finish in 3rd place, ahead of Atletico Madrid.

One of the driving forces behind their fantastic season was the ever-present Aleix Garcia. The former Manchester City man has been a mainstay in Girona’s XI this season, even chipping in with nine G+A in the league.

Garcia hasn’t had the conventional career of a world-beater, he left Manchester City after making just four Premier League appearances. He was with Girona in the lows of La Liga SmartBank; but as Girona have meteorically risen, Garcia has risen with them.

I hope Girona don’t get raided this summer, and getting the green light from UEFA for their Champions League qualification bodes well for them. However, with West Ham United, Aston Villa, and Bayer Leverkusen all interested in signing Garcia; it appears he might be off this summer.

Frenkie De Jong

Frenkie De Jong has been flirting with leaving Barcelona for a while.

The former Ajax midfielder seemed destined to join Manchester United just a few years ago, but it never materialised. It’s not hard to see why United were interested, the midfielder is versatile, a great dribbler, a wide range of passing and defensively sound.

So why would Barcelona let De Jong go after spending €86 million on him in 2021? Ruud Gullit summed it up the other day speaking to Zillo Sport:

“He's playing badly. He doesn't live up to the level he has. If you look at Frenkie de Jong in the last World Cup, he was like a ghost! He has to take matters into his own hands."

That being said, clubs still see the value De Jong has, and perhaps a change of scenery will bring the midfielder back to his best.

Arsenal are reportedly interested in the Dutchman, and he could be fantastic partnering Declan Rice.
