Where Did Brentford Finish Last Season?

We all knew of Brentford’s capacity to embody the likeable underdog prior to the 2025/26 campaign - after all, boasting the second smallest stadium in the league, they had confounded their critics with a top half finish in 2024/25. However, last season's ninth place finish saw the Bees take things to the next level.

Finishing outside a European qualification spot by the miniscule margin of -3 goal difference, Keith Andrews’ men proved themselves to be capable of more than just mid-table mediocrity - Igor Thiago rivalled Erling Haaland for the Premier League golden boot for virtually the whole season, while Caoimhin Kelleher proved to be a revelation in between the sticks.

There were plenty of unsung heroes too - Mikkel Damsgaard, Dango Ouattara, Michael Kayode, Kevin Schade. All of these players had a significant hand in propelling Brentford to their joint best ever Premier League finish, and one which has created a superb platform for taking the next step as a Premier League regular - Europe.

The competitive style last season has already attracted the marquee signing of Mamadou Sangare and promising Austrian talent Jannik Schuster, and if one or two more names can be persuaded to join up at the G-Tech, Brentford could well enter the continental race once again.

Keith Andrews

No one expected Keith Andrews’ appointment at Brentford to be a success. With no managerial experience, instead making the jump to the dugout from the meagre role of set-piece coach, Andrews was supposed to be one dimensional, inadequate, and a laughing stock by October.

Instead, he led the Bees to within touching distance of Europe, and whilst he couldn’t quite get them over the line at the first time of asking, their proximity to the promised land will have curried the former Blackburn midfielder tremendous favour with the Brentford board, and more importantly, patience.

It is clear that Andrews has bundles of coaching talent, and to have hit the ground running in his first job at none other than the Premier League level is to his tremendous credit. However, it will all mean nothing if he now goes on to join the ever-growing list of one season wonders, coaches who were figured out after a season, and cast aside.

Andrews needs to keep things fresh and unpredictable while at the same time sticking to his principles and the basics that worked so well in West London last season. It’ll be a tough ask, but from what he has showed the world so far, Andrews has more than enough ability to keep things competitive.

Who is Brentford’s Player to Watch?

Igor Thiago

Arguably the revelation of the 2025/26 season, the Brazilian fired himself into the global spotlight with 22 Premier League goals from absolutely nowhere. To anyone who put him in their FPL team before the season started, I must salute you - that’s some elite talent scouting.

It was made all the more impressive by the fact that the season prior he had failed to score in 14 games for the club, and picked up a severe knee injury in the process, which for a while looked to have ended any hopes of becoming a Brentford regular.

Instead, Thiago proved to everyone why Brentford went and splashed £28 million on him in the summer of 2024, and while his performances for Brazil at the World Cup may have left plenty to be desired, there is no doubt that when faced with a Premier League defence, Thiago knows exactly how to exploit it more often than not.

Brentford 2026/27 Season Prediction

Maintaining the large majority of their important squad members, very little has changed at the G-Tech so far this summer, a refreshing change after the multiple transfer raids of last summer. With Kayode, Damsgaard, Thiago and co still very much nailed down with long-term contracts, Keith Andrews can very much focus on improving rather than replacing with his transfer moves.

There will be an element of familiarity - 16 of the 19 other teams in the league now know exactly how Keith Andrews wants his side to play, and will take precautions to prevent them from doing so, but with a frontline that can go end-to-end in a flash, there can be no suitable preparation for the counter-attack, which was one of the Bees specialities last season.

Naturally, with the transfer window still open, there is still a high chance that Brentford do lose one or two important players, but having already done some suitable recruitment, their absence will be felt far less than had they departed early in the summer.

We think it unlikely that Brentford will mount an attack on the European spots for the second season running, but with the ability to surprise the biggest of teams, and a style that is suitable for grinding out points, they won’t be in any danger of leaving their typical mid-table bracket.
