Can Eintracht Frankfurt Continue Without Omar Marmoush?

Will Frankfurt Fall Off Without Marmoush?

Since the departure of Omar Marmoush, Eintracht Frankfurt’s recent form has been anything but reassuring. In the wake of their Egyptian talisman’s exit, the club has managed just one win, three draws, and two losses. Critics are now questioning whether Frankfurt can maintain their status without the attacking spark that Marmoush provided.

Their most recent outing ended in a crushing 4-0 loss to Bayern Munich, a result that underscores the defensive and offensive void left behind. Notably, the only win came against the bottom team in the league – a performance that hardly inspires confidence for the upcoming challenges.

With Bundesliga rivals showing robust form and a transfer window that now seems long over, questions remain about whether new signings or tactical adjustments can fill the gap.

Frankfurt manager Dino Toppmöller faces a stern test as he tries to galvanise a side that has struggled to replace Marmoush’s dynamism. “We are working hard every day,” Toppmöller stated after the game, but the statistics suggest that relying on grit alone may not be enough to turn their fortunes around.

With Bayern’s recent dominance and tough fixtures ahead, the challenge is clear: can Eintracht Frankfurt find a new identity – and a new goalscorer – to keep pace with the league’s elite without their former star?

Replacements?

One player who could replace Marmoush’s goalscoring form for Frankfurt is Hugo Ekitike. The Frenchman joined in the summer on a permanent deal and has scored 12 goals in this campaign. However, since Marmoush’s departure, he has managed to only continue on his okay run of form, rather than replicate Marmoush’s incredible displays.

In January, the club brought in Elye Wahi. The French forward had been struggling at both Marseille and Lens since leaving Montpellier in 2023, and hoped that he could return to form in the Bundesliga, however his is yet to score for the club.
