Premier League GW5 Review

The latest weekend of Premier League action saw great goals, big shocks and crucial victories for teams very much in need of finding lift-off in their season.
So here is our round-up of all the matches that took place in Gameweek 5 of England's top flight.
Tottenham Hotspur 2-3 Aston Villa
Tottenham's miserable beginnign to the 26/27 season continued as they saw themselves beaten at home once again, as Aston Villa won at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the third consecutive time.
Still awaiting their first goal of the season, new Villa goalkeeper Zion Suzuki was called into action four times in the early stages, with Brazilian winger Savio forcing a double save from the Japanese stopper, before Villa grabbed the opening goal on the fringes of half-time. New signing Johan Manzambi, making his first start for the club, sliding home from the cnetre of the box after the ball fell to him following a deflected effort from Boubacar Kamara.
Another new signing for Villa, Nicolas Jackson, made things go from bad to worse for Spurs and even better for Unai Emery's side, flicking the ball away from Tottenahm captain Micky Van de Ven before finding the corner with a volley to double the lead. Before Emiliano Buendia smashed an effort into the far corner from distance to put the game beyond doubt for Villa and lead many Tottenham supporters to leave their seats and head towards the exits.

However, they would find the net for the first time in the Premier League, Conor Gallagher getting a slight touch on the ball from close range to open their account, before Jan Paul van Hecke headed home from a last-gasp free kick to bring the gap to one, but it was too little too late. With Spurs still awaiting their first win of the season whilst Villa claimed theirs, leaving Spurs in the relegation zone heading into the international break.
Brighton & Hove Albion 3-0 Arsenal
Arsenal's perfect start to the season was brought back to earth with a bump as they were comfortably and dominantly beaten on the south coast by an impressive Brighton & Hove Albion.
The Seagulls flew out the blocks and gave Arsenal little time on the ball with a high-press from the opening minutes, and that start was rewarded midway through the half with stand-in captain Pascal Groß struck the inside of the post from distance and his effort found the back of the net.

Arsenal, who had struggled to create throughout the half, was in need of half-time, but conceded a second just minutes before the break, Greek striker Charalampos Kostoulas replicating the first goal scored by his side, finding the net from outside the penalty area to give Brighton a fully deserved two-goal advantage.
But any hopes from Gunners fans of their side getting back into the game during the second half were quickly diminished when the Seagulls made it three, new signing Chema Andrés heading in from a corner which was again poorly defended by Arsenal to pile the misery on a truly forgettible day for the Champions.
Brighton were in dreamland, and continued their fine start to the season with their third win from the first four games.
Everton 1-0 Ipswich Town
David Moyes' Everton continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 1-0 victory over newly-promoted Ipswich at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
The score was opened in bizarre fashion, as the Toffees' hit the front in the early stages of the match, striker Thierno Barry scoring his second Premier League goal of the campagin, with a long-range volley from James Tarkowski deflecting off the Everton forward and finding the back of the net with the Ipswich goalkeeper completly wrong-footed.
Ipswich nearly hit back minutes later, as winger Abdul Fatawu hit a powerful strike towards goal with a half-volley, but Jordan Pickford was equal to it with a strong save.
Barry hit the back of the net for the second time of the afternoon just before the hour mark in the second half, truning in a corner from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, but the effort was later disallowed for offisde with Brennan Johnson impeding Ipswich keeper Christian Walton.
The Tractor Boys failed to find an equaliser, with Everton claiming their second win of the season to move them into the top five.
Newcastle Utd 2-1 Hull City
Hull City saw themselves beaten for the first time on their return to the top flight as Newcastle emerged victorius 2-1 at St James Park, returning to winning ways after Monday night's tough afternoon away at Leeds United.
And the job for the eventual win was all but done in the openting ten minutes of the match, as the Magpies roared into a two-goal advantage within the opening eight minutes.
The deadlock was broken just three minutes following kick-off, as Joe Willock struck home with a powerful, low shot inside the Hull box to give Newcastle the best possible start, before just four minutes later, Lewis Hall found the bottom right corner to double the lead and give Hull a mountain to climb before the game had even reached it's ten minute mark.

Despite that, the Tigers kept pushing, and hope of getting back into the game stayed around as Yoane Wissa saw a penalty saved just before the break. And eventually. they would get themselves back into the game as Mohamed-Ali Cho scored his first goal for the club, sweeping in with his left foot after being played through by Mohamed Bellmoumi.
Despite threatining for a late fightback, Newcaslte held on, and claimed a crucial win to get themselves back up the table.
Nottingham Forest 0-1 Coventry City
Frank Lampard's Coventry City claimed their first points and first goal with a huge win away at the City Ground, with wing-back Jay Dasilva's second half strike enough to lift them off the bottom of the table.
Forest came close on a number of occasioans as the stronger attacking force in the contest, it was the away side who broke the deadlock in the early stages of the second period, with Dasilva breaking past the Forest backline and firing into the net to open his side's account for the season.

Forest thought they had equalised just four minutes from the 90, as Igor Jesus swept home after what initially seemd a defensive error, however VAR later decided Jesus had fouled the Coventry defender prior to scoring, and the goal was ruled out.
The home side, despite having a total of 24 shots, failed to find the net. With the result confirming Coventry's first victory in the Premier League since returning to the top flight and enough to lift them off the foot of the table.
Manchester City 5-3 Sunderland
Manchester City eventually defeated Sunderland after an incredible encounter which saw eight goals scored.
The first half at the Etihad Stadium was one of the most action packed in the season so far, with five goals scored as City were forced to take the lead three times after being hit back twice.
Enzo Fernandez opened the scoring inside nine minutes for Enzo Marseca's side, catching Black Cats goalkeeper Robin Roefs out at the near post from a wide free-kick, before Sunderland responded just three minutes later through Brian Brobbey. The Dutch striker sneaking in behind the City backline after being played through by Enzo Le Fée. Before Rayan Cherki found the corner sindie the box to give City the lead again.

However, lightning struck twice as Brobbey tapped home to finish a flowing Sunderland move just a few minutes after to draw the two sides level again. But Antoine Semenyo would have the final say of the first half, firing in a half-volley just before the interval.
Semenyo would score again to put a two-goal advantage between the two teams, capilatsing after the ball fell to him following a error from the Sunderland defence, and it seemed like the Sunderland fight was over.
But they weren't done there, Brobbey would score his hattrick, again finishing the ball fron close range after the ball was played across following a quick free-kick, and suddenly Regis Le Bris' side had hope once more.
But at last, Erling Haaland would get in on the act, finishing well from a Josko Gvardiol cross to score the eighth and final goal in a true modern-day Premier League classic.
AFC Bournemouth 0-1 Liverpool
Andoni Iraola won on his return to the Vitaility Stadium, as Liverpool edged out Bournemouth thanks to an Alexander Isak second half strike.

The Cherries headed into the game having not lost on home turf since January, and nearly took the lead inside 20 minutes as a near post flick from striker Evanilson was well kept out by Alisson with a low dive.
At the other end, Bradley Barcola came close to scoring his first goal since his big-money move to the Reds, firing a powersul strike towards goal which was kept out by Djordje Petrović.
Ten minutes into the second half, Bournemouth failed to deal with a cross from the right-hand side into their penalty area, and there was Isak to finish, scoring his fourth goal of the season and giving Liverpool the advantage on the south coast.
Despite Bournemouth's efforts, they suffered their first home defeat since a Declan Rice brace saw Arsenal come away from the Vitality Stadium with a 2-3 win back in January, as Liverpool claimed a crucial win to move them up to sixth place.
Leeds United 0-0 Crystal Palace
In-form Leeds United welcomed Crystal Palace to Elland Road, with both teams eventually forced to settle for a goalless draw, but the game was not without it's chances.

The first half saw little goalmouth action, with the best chance for eitther side falling to Palace's Daichi Kamada, who was played in on goal by Jorgan Strand Larsen, but saw his effort saved by James Trafford.
The opening minutes of the second half saw Palace threaten again, a free-kick on the edge of the penalty area for Yermey Pino was again kept out by Trafford, before Kamada fit a shot just wide of the post.
On 52 minutes, Pierre Sage's Eagles thought they had a deserved lead as Tyrick Mitchell met a cross at the back post to turn the ball home, but the goal was disallowed due to a tight offside in the build-up.
Leeds' best chance came just four minutes after, as a cross found the feet of striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, the forward struck the ball towards goal with his effort on target, but well saved by Palace's Walter Benítez.
Both teams failed to find a breakthrough and were forced to settle for the points being shared, putting the two sides on nine and four points each respectfully.
Fulham x-x Manchester United
After what had been an awful week for United, they neeed a good start in West London and they started strongly. Lisandro Martinez let fly with a volley from the edge of the box, before Bruno Fernandes stole into the box on the end of a cutback and hit the post from close-range, but his shot hit off the post.

Fulham responded with a big chance of their own, josh King striking an effort first time at the back post on the half-volley following an Alex Iwobi cross, but the effort was kept out by Senne Lammens.
Lammens would again be called into action soon after, keeping out a low strike from Sander Berge from outside the box, with both sides creating chances in an end-to-end first half hour at Craven Cottage.
United then struck the right post after Matheus Cunha let fly from distance, the Brazilian's shot took a deflection and left Bernd Leno scrambling, but the ball fired off the woodwork and out for a corner.
The chances kept coming, as just minutes later, Lammens made a fine save with his feet to keep out Josh King, who found himself at the back post again on the right side of the United box and struck low, but Lammens was equal to it with a strong stop.
Following the break, the opening minutes of the second half did not quite have the same entertianment levels as the first period, but at the hour mark the deadlock was broken by the home side, and in a style that reflected the last week for Manchester United.
Centre-back Calvin Bassey won the ball for Fulham off Cunha, drove towards the box and struck a shot, which was parried by Lammens but straight towards Marintez, who saw the ball bounce of him and back into the net for an own goal and give Fulham the advantage.
United, looking to avoid a third straight defeat, pushed desperately for an equaliser. and forced Leno into a fine diving save to deny a curling Bryan Mbuemo effort.

And as the match entered it's dying minutes, United would find a huge goal as a strike from Cunha deflected into the net to make it 1-1 and equalise.
And that's how the match ended, easing pressure on Michael Carrick heading into the international break despite not finding a winner, whilst Fulham lifted off the bottom of the table but stay in the relegation zone in 19th place.
