England masterclass and surprise package: Football Park's Group C Predictions

12/06/24 14:58

England kick off their Euro 2024 campaign in just a few days time and look like one of the favourites for the whole tournament. But before they can focus on meeting the likes of Germany and France in the knockout stages, they first have to overcome the tough challenges of Serbia, Denmark and Slovenia.

Matchday 1

Serbia 1-3 England

England’s first meeting is with Serbia on the 16th June. Despite a shocking performance and result against Iceland last week, I think that England will put on a very strong performance against the Eagles which will only be marred by a single goal courtesy of Aleksandar Mitrovic. England’s goals will come from Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka.

Slovenia 1-0 Denmark

This might be considered a shock, but I think that Denmark will struggle to break down a disciplined Slovenia side. Benjamin Sesko will break the deadlock early in the second half and his team will hold on for their first ever win in a European Championships.

Matchday 2

Denmark 0-1 England

Once again, Denmark will struggle to create clear cut chances and fall victim to a Kane strike in the first half. England will dominate the ball for much of the game but will also struggle to create chances. Be prepared for this game to be another Southgate-ball classic.

Slovenia 0-2 Serbia

Slovenia’s main threat of Sesko will be shut down by Serbia’s resolute defence and the midfield mastery of Dusan Tadic and the lethality of Mitrovic up top will give them the victory, putting them in the driving seat for second place in the group.

Matchday 3

England 1-1 Slovenia

Having secured qualification to the Round of 16 in the first two games, Southgate will most likely rest his stronger players and give some others a chance. Slovenia, desperate to qualify for the knockout stages, will score early from a set piece. A second-half goal from Jarrod Bowen will spare Southgate’s blushes and secure top spot for the Three Lions.

Denmark 2-3 Serbia

With no pressure on them, Denmark will finally be able to perform, but they’ll still be outclassed by a strong Serbia side. It would be typical for all eyes to be on England only for the other game in the group to be a classic. Serbia will secure second place in the group with a last minute winner from Dusan Vlahovic and Denmark will go home with zero points.

Final Table

England qualify in top spot, Serbia get second after a dramatic winner against Denmark, and Slovenia finish third and qualify for the Round of 16 as one of the best ranked third-place teams.
