Group A predictions, can Switzerland, Hungary and Scotland upset the German party?

Euro 2024 Match-day 1 Group A predictions

Germany 2-0 Scotland Germany will be expected to win the opening game of their home tournament and I expect them to do just that. They are expected to win the group and have a much stronger squad than Scotland. Despite the game likely to be a nervy affair, I expect Die Mannschaft to have control and double their lead late on to see off The Tartan Army.

Hungary 0-0 Switzerland How boring to predict a goalless draw I hear you say. Despite my boring prediction, I do expect this game to be a cagey affair. Both teams are evenly matched and I expect much of the ninety minutes will be scoping each other out as it’s the first game of the tournament. Neither side will want to start on the back foot, who knows it could be a goal fest. If so I would pick Hungary to just have the edge.

Euro 2024 Match-day 2 Group A predictions

Germany 3-2 Hungary Talking of goal fests, this is the highest scoring game I expect in Group A. These sides met at the last European Championships, with the game finishing 2-2 thanks to a late Leon Goretzka goal. I expect Hungary to come out strong and chase the game if the game with Switzerland ends goalless. However with Germany’s quality I expect them to win this high-scorer, perhaps they will leave it late once again.

Scotland 1-0 Switzerland I had to give Scotland something, and why not. They were extremely impressive in qualifying and deserve their spot at this Euros. After beating Spain and Norway in qualifying a victory here is easily attainable and I can see a Scott McTominay winner late on after a tight affair.

Euro 2024 Match-day 3 Group A predictions

Switzerland 0-1 Germany If my predictions come to fruition, Germany will be on six points heading into this game and already qualified. While I expect rotation from Nagelsmann, I still see them beating Switzerland comfortably to finish on nine points.

Scotland 0-2 Hungary A game that could go either way, Scotland have never made it out of the group at an international tournament. And once again if my predictions are correct, this final game against Hungary could leave it with all to play for. Despite the anticipation, it’s still a game I expect Hungary to win.

Euro 2024 Group A prediction

This outcome would mean that Germany and Hungary would qualify for the knockout round, with Scotland and Switzerland likely crashing out at the first hurdle with three points apiece.

Euro 2024 Group A top scorer prediction

With Germany winning the group flawlessly, it’s only right that Kai Havertz is my prediction to be top scorer in the group. He scored twice at Euro 2020, a stat which I fully expect him to better this time around.
