Euro 2024 Group E: Teams, Fixtures and Predictions
Group E is made up of Belgium, Slovakia, Romania and Ukraine and there is a clear favourite heading into this summer’s European Championship. Will Romelu Lukaku and the Red Devils do what is expected of them and top the group? Or will we see some upsets, surprises and underdog stories? Read on for my predictions for what will happen in group E.

Matchday one, Monday 17th of June: Romania vs Ukraine (14:00 BST, BBC iPlayer) and Belgium vs Slovakia (17:00 BST, ITV and ITVX)
Matchday two: Slovakia vs Ukraine (Friday 21st of June, 14:00 BST, BBC One) and Belgium vs Romania (Saturday 22nd of June, 20:00 BST, ITV and ITVX)
Matchday three, Wednesday 26th of June: Slovakia vs Romania (17:00 BST, BBC Two) and Ukraine vs Belgium (17:00 BST, BBC One)
Matchday one
Romania 0 - 2 Ukraine: Romania were without a win in all three of their pre-tournament friendlies, with draws against Bulgaria and Northern Ireland and a loss to Colombia, and I do not think their Euro campaign will start off any better. Despite Romania suffering a 3-1 loss at the hands of Poland, they enjoyed a 4-0 thrashing of Moldova and held Germany to a 0-0 draw in their other pre-tournament friendlies. I think my player to watch for Ukraine, Mykhailo Mudryk will prove me right and lead Ukraine to a first win of the group.
Belgium 3 - 0 Slovakia: Arguably the weakest side in Group E, I do not think Slovakia will be able to hold back the favourites from starting their campaign with a comfortable win. Expect the likes of Lukaku, Jeremy Doku and Kevin De Bruyne to comfortably pick up three points against Slovakia.
Matchday two
Slovakia 0 - 1 Ukraine: I do not expect much excitement to come from this game, with Ukraine just edging out a victory due to better talent at their disposal compared to Slovakia.
Belgium 2 - 0 Romania: Another comfortable victory for The Red Devils where, unfortunately for the Romanian faithful, the Belgian talent will be too much to handle.
Matchday three
Slovakia 1 - 0 Romania: On the final group matchday, I think Slovakia will pick up a crucial win with the help of my player to watch Leo Sauer. Belgium 3 - 1 Ukraine: Belgium will face their toughest match of the group against Ukraine, but again their talent will shine through and ultimately pick up nine out of nine points in the group.
The above results would mean that Belgium top the group pretty comfortably with three wins and nine points. Ukraine come in second with two wins, one loss and six points in total. Slovakia, thanks to their matchday three victory finish third and depending on other group results, may end up being one of the four best third placed teams to progress. Romania end up without a win and are subsequently knocked out of the group stages.
Goals are plentiful in my predictions for Belgium so it only seems logical I predict the player of the group to be their record goalscorer Romelu Lukaku. Entering the tournament with 85 goals in 115 appearances for his country, expect a few more to come in Belgium’s journey to Group E winners.
