Everton 2026/27 Season Preview

Where did Everton Finish Last Season?

Everton’s first season at their brand new state-of-the-art Hill Dickinson Stadium saw mixed results for David Moyes’ men, with a 13th-place finish, two early cup exits, and a failed European bid derailed by a dire end of the season.

A string of late goals were conceded across the campaign, included a 100th-minute loss in the first Merseyside derby at the Toffees’ new home, an uncharacteristic trend for a side so good at finishing seasons strong.

The 25/26 campaign was almost the inverse of the year prior, with Moyes’ early arrival in 2025 inspiring a strong end to a campaign that was teetering around relegation in the first half.

The form at the end of last season’s campaign cannot continue for Everton if they want to better the unlucky-for-some 13th that has been their place for the last two seasons.

David Moyes has a big job on his hands this season. Talks of Europe with 7 games to go, especially after an emphatic 3-0 win over Chelsea in March, gave the Toffees hope of a first European campaign since 2017.

Maybe the pressure got to the players and the manager, as the club failed to win any of their final 7 matches.

Will it be second full season syndrome for Moyes’ men, or can they finally deliver a season Everton fans deserve for staying patient through a rather traumatic 2020s so far?

Best Result: Everton 3-0 Chelsea (Beto 33', 62'; Ndiaye 76')

Worst Result: Everton 1-2 Liverpool (Beto 54'; Salah 29', Van Dijk 90+10')

When is the Merseyside Derby in 26/27 Premier League?

For the first time since the 21/22 Premier League Season, Everton failed to take any points from their Merseyside rivals last season, with both games ending in a 2-1 win for the Reds, in what was a poor season for them.

Everton will be looking to one-up their rivals, who have lost key players like Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson, with the first derby coming the Toffees’ way in November, with the return fixture at Anfield only two months later.

Expect these fixtures to change to accommodate TV selection.

Who is Everton’s Manager for the 26/27 Season?

David Moyes

Well into his second tenure with the Toffees, Moyes hasn't had it as easy as some had envisioned after his first spell.

Everton fans have been quick to get on the Scot’s back due to his passive style of play, his reluctance to make changes during matches and his tendency to stick with styles and tactics that more often than not fail to work.

It seems like the transfers he has made are steps in the right direction, but with key areas still lacking depth, and more importantly, a lack of a right-back to replace the departing Seamus Coleman, it remains to be seen how much patience fans will have with Moyes.

With another transfer window to mould the squad in his image, however, there will be fewer excuses if Everton fail to progress this season.

Who is Everton’s Player to Watch?

Thierno Barry

After impressing in pre-season so far, the Frenchman will be looking to revitalise the form that saw him drop in and out of the starting 11 over the course of last season. Dealing with a shoulder injury for the majority of the campaign, it seems like the 24-year-old has shrugged it off (quite literally) and is ready to prove a point this season to establish himself as Everton’s main talisman.

After numerous years of Everton failing to find a proven striker since Romelu Lukaku's departure, Barry is ready to stake that claim himself, and the Toffees will need that if they want to improve this season.

Another obvious answer could have been Iliman Ndiaye, with the rumour mill starting to turn following numerous links to Saudi Arabia and other Premier League clubs like Arsenal, whose bid for Vinicius Junior was unsuccessful. It is fair to say Ndiaye failed to impress Evertonians as much following his return from the Africa Cup of Nations in late January, having enjoyed an impressive start to the season that included a fantastic goal against Sunderland.

Everton 2026/27 Season Prediction

As an Evertonian, it’s hard to be too optimistic as that is not part of our DNA, but I have a good feeling about this season.

With plenty of teams in and around Everton competing in European competition this season, it gives the Blues the advantage of having more time to prepare for games, especially in the first half of the season.

Last year Everton briefly showed they could challenge for Europe before completely falling away. They've now spent substantially to strengthen the squad. This season is about proving that that European push wasn't a fluke, and proving Moyes can take Everton beyond simply being stable.

Everton still need a right-back, and fast. We could be having a totally different conversation if that position had been filled with a transfer but, alas, we are a week out from the season starting and a lack of activity in that department is concerning, although advanced negotiations for Crystal Palace star Daniel Munoz do give me some hope.

If Everton do sign a right-back, and sort out their few issues from last season, it could be a more positive year for them. It might see them just miss out on Europe, but I think a good season will happily satisfy the Toffees for another year still.

Or we could be happily dissatisfied again.

Who knows?

Football Park Prediction: 9th.
