Everything you need to know about Denmark before Euro 2024
The European Championships kick off next week and Denmark will be looking to replicate their form from three years ago after what has been a pretty disappointing couple of years for them.
Here is everything you need to know about the Nordic country before they take to the field.
Euro Squad
Head Coach, Kasper Hjulmand has named his 26 man squad that will be heading to the tournament, and has decided to trust his experienced players, with Rasmus Højlund being the youngest player at 21 years old.
Goalkeeper Mads Hermansen is the only uncapped player to be called up and it is unlikely that he will be able to get a start over Kasper Schmeichel who recently made his 100th appearance for the national team.

In the midfield, the experience of Christian Eriksen and Pierre-Emile Højbjerg will be key for them as the pair have over 200 combined caps for the national team.
While Højlund will likely be Denmark’s main man up top, there are still a lot of experienced players in his position who may be called upon if the Manchester United man cannot deliver. Both Kasper Dolberg and Yussuf Poulsen have been mainstays in the Danish national team for years and could be key in helping the side progress from the Group Stage.
Group and Schedule
Denmark are in Group C alongside England, Serbia and Slovenia. England are the obvious favourites from this group but second place looks open to any of three other teams in the group. Denmark are considered by a lot of people as the favourites behind England but Serbia and Slovenia could also put up a good fight.
The Danes open their campaign against Slovenia on 16th June before playing England on the 20th and Serbia on the 25th. All of their games are available on ITV or the BBC.
Christian Eriksen scored a stunning late winner for Denmark against Sweden tonight in the same stadium where he collapsed three years ago ✨

Players to Watch
Denmark have a lot of strong players to watch out for in the tournament but none are more exciting than Manchester United’s Rasmus Højlund.
The 21-year-old striker began this season slowly, but ended up scoring 10 goals in his debut season for the Red Devils. Højlund’s talent is obvious, but it will be interesting to see if it will be in full flow during the tournament.
Another Dane to watch out for in the Euros is Morten Hjulmand, Sporting CP’s talented defensive midfielder. Hjulmand’s breakout season in Portugal has helped him slowly integrate into the Danish squad.
However, as talented as he is, central midfield is where Denmark are strongest, so he will have to be at the top of his game if he wants to hold down a starting place over the likes of Højbjerg or Eriksen.
2-1 win vs. Sweden! Although not perfect, that was one of our better games in recent times.

Game really changed when Thomas Delaney and Morten Hjulmand entered the pitch. 👏 pic.twitter.com/J90SFFKkwo
How did they fare at Euro 2020?
Denmark were one of the stand out teams in Euro 2020, progressing to the semi-final before being knocked out by England in extra-time despite taking the lead.
However their campaign three years ago will probably be remembered by most because of Christian Eriksen’s cardiac arrest that occurred in their open group game against Finland. Eriksen’s recovery and come back to the national team has been extraordinary and is the biggest storyline following the Danes into the tournament.
398 days ago, Christian Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch and told paramedics to keep his boots because he didn't think he'd play again.

How far will Denmark go this time?
While I think that it is quite possible that Denmark could easily finish second behind England, and qualify for the knockout stages, I only have to look back at their performance in the 2022 World Cup to realise that they have not been in best form over the last few years.
They finished bottom of their group in Qatar and while they did qualify top of their group for this summer’s tournament, they did lose to both Kazakhstan and Northern Ireland, and only finished above Slovenia due to their head to head record.
In my opinion, I think the Danes will replicate their performance from Qatar and finish rock bottom of this group.
