Everything You Need to Know About Ivory Coast Before the 2026 World Cup
We are just a few days away from the start of the 2026 World Cup. This means only one thing, time to do research on the sides that are taking part in the biggest ever World Cup. Today we will be taking a dive into one of the countries coming from Africa, that being the Ivory Coast.
What is Their World Cup History?
The Ivory Coast is one of the nations that has a short history at the World Cup. This summer will be their 4th World Cup and will represent 20 years since they first made the World Cup back in 2006.
While they are a nation that has made some world class players the main one being Didier Drogba, they have never been able to make a strong run. In fact, in every World Cup they have ever been in, they have failed to make it out the group stage. They will be hoping to change that this summer.
They have played 9 matches in there 3 previous World Cup’s winning just 3 of those matches drawing 1 and losing the other 5. However, they have still been a threat scoring 13 goals in those 9 matches. They will be hoping to finally use those goals to move forward this summer.
Who are the Key Players?
They have a very strong squad with some top talents from Europe. One of these is Sporting CP defender Ousmane Diomande. The 22-year-old is a tall and physical defender someone who enjoys the physical side of football more than anything. However, he isn’t just limited to that side of the game as his passing ability is also at the highest level. He will be a key player this summer and will have many top sides across Europe watching him.
The next man is someone a lot of people know well, that being Amad Diallo. The Manchester United player has had a mixed season in England, however, has shown signs of his talent. This summer he will need to make his talent count most to help his country. His pace and willingness to take a man on will be invaluable for the Ivory Coast and he will be one of their key players in the World Cup.
We end of the key players with RB Leipzig player and Liverpool target Yan Diomande. He has just come off a brilliant season in Germany and will be hoping to make this year even better with a good showing in the US. With 22 goal contributions in 36 games, he will be their output this summer and will likely cause a lot of issues when attacking his man and the box.

Who Will the Ivory Coast Face in Their Group & When?
The Ivory Coast kicks off their World Cup with a challenge as they face Ecuador on the 15th of June. It will be far from an easy game as they face one of the strongest defences in the World Cup. This game will take place at 00:00 GMT and will be a difficult opening.
It doesn’t get easier for the Ivory Coast as next they face Germany. This game will take place at 20:00 GMT on June 20th. Germany will be the most difficult match they have in the group as they are expected to finish top. However, the Ivory Coast could pose more than a challenge for Germany.
Finally, they get a game that they can breathe in. On the 25th of June at 21:00 GMT, they face Curacao. This should be a victory for them and if they do well enough, could allow them to finally make history and move forward in the tournament.
How Far can we Expect Ivory Coast to Go?
The Ivory Coast has a very difficult group, and we expect them to finish in 3rd. However, they will more than likely finish in one of the positions that allow them to move into the Round of 32. This is where they will face one of Turkey, Belgium, Mexico, England, Switzerland or Portugal.
Some of these games they can walk away from such as Mexico and Switzerland. Countries such as Turkey and Belgium will be challenges, but they can win. However, a draw against England or Portugal will see their World Cup end.
However, we don’t expect them to manage to survive the round of 16. Therefore, we believe that the round of 32 will be their lower limit with a struggle to make the round of 16. However, once they reach this round, it will more than likely see their World Cup end.
