Group F Euro 2024 Predictions

One of the tournament favourites in Portugal are joined by previous winners Czech Republic; last tournaments ‘dark horses’ Turkey; and newcomers Georgia; but what can we expect from the group?

Predictions for the group

Match-day 1 predictions

Turkey will come into the game under immense pressure to win, as they lineup against what on paper is the weakest team in the group. I expect Georgia to surprise Turkey and come out of the block, scoring in the first half and holding on, before doubling their lead in the second half. The final ten minutes will be tense, with Turkey pulling a goal back and the match finishing 2-1 to the tournament debutants.

Portugal have a point to prove in what could be Cristiano Ronaldo’s final tournament. I expect them to coast through their first group game against the Czech Republic. Portugal will go into the break with a two-goal lead, and then increase their lead to three, before Czech get their first goal of the tournament.

Match-day 2 predictions

The Czech Republic will go into this fixture needing a result, with a loss all but eliminating them from the tournament. I expect the Czech Republic to attack Georgia, and be on the front foot, however, I can see Georgia holding out for a surprise point against the Czech, and all but securing qualification to the knockouts.

Portugal will batter Turkey, that’s what I expect. The Portuguese will want to qualify in style, and they will know that a win will guarantee this, similar to their first game, they will come flying out of the blocks and go into the break with another two-goal lead. I then expect them to finish the match in style, and come away 4-0 winners.

Match-day 3 predictions

A deflated Turkey side will be already out of the tournament ahead of the final match against the Czech Republic. Because of this, I see Turkey rotating to perhaps give some players a chance to represent their country at the Euro’s. Therefore, I predict that Czech will come away with all three points, winning 2-0.

Portugal will see it as a failure if they do not win the group, so do not expect them to make too many changes to their lineup for their final match. Portugal will have too much for Georgia, and will win a tightly contested match 2-0.
