Hot Break - The 10 Young Stars You Need to Watch to Brighten the Dreary International Break
If you were to interview football fans on their opinion on these Autumn international breaks so early into the new club season, the majority would give very negative responses. The break seems to just slow the momentum of the new campaign and all for some glorified international friendlies in the form of the UEFA Nations League.
The 2026/27 season is the first since the introduction of the new longer international break in September/October which results in no club football for three weeks for the majority of fans. This brings a very boring period for football fans as not many have interest in watching their nation compete in the Nations League.
Let’s take a look at some of the young stars that may help to make the international break a bit more watchable as they portray their talent on the big stage.
Hot Break - The 10 Young Stars You Need to Watch to Brighten the Dreary International Break
Myles Lewis-Skelly (England)
Despite Arsenal strengthening their midfield this summer with the addition of Bruno Guimaraes to the ranks, Lewis-Skelly has started four of five Premier League games in the middle of the park. His performances have earned himself the call up to Thomas Tuchel’s England squad, so can Lewis-Skelly repay the favour to Tuchel and show why he can be integral to the Three Lions in future years.
Charalampos Kostoulas (Greece)
After Danny Welbeck departed the Amex Stadium for Stamford Bridge, Charalampos Kostoulas has been given the opportunity to lead the line for the Seagulls this season. With four goal contributions in his last three appearances, can the Brighton & Hove Albion star continue this form into the Nations League where Greece face the likes of Netherlands and Germany in League A Group 2.
Gjivai Zechiel (Netherlands)
Kostoulas will be coming up against another wonderkid this international break in the form of Gjivai Zechiel. The Feyenoord midfielder is certainly having a season to remember so far with nine goal contributions in seven games in the Eredivisie from midfield. Extraordinary stuff!
Samuele Inacio (Italy)
It is without a doubt that Italian football has been on the decline for many years and that can be seen with how poor the national team has performed in recent times, failing to qualify for a number of major tournaments. They could turn to Borussia Dortmund midfielder Samuele Inacio to help inspire the nation as he is currently breaking through in Germany this season.
Alessandro Romano (Italy)
Another youngster making his way into the Italian national side is Cagliari’s Alessandro Romano who is having a breakthrough season in Serie A following a successful loan spell in Serie B with Spezia last campaign. Romano has started every game so far this season for Cagliari and has popped up with a goal too!
Konstantinos Karetsas (Greece)
Another Borussia Dortmund youngster on this list is Greece’s Konstantinos Karetsas who has featured in every game so far this season for the German side at just 18-years of age. The winger has featured in both games so far for Greece during this break in which they have beaten both Serbia and Germany.
Lamine Yamal (Spain)
Lamine Yamal is not only one of the best youngsters in the World but he is one of the best players in the World and one of the strong favourites to win the 2026 Ballon d’or award. Yamal won the World Cup with Spain a couple of months ago and has begun the 2026/27 season in the same fashion for Barcelona. He has eight goals and six assists in just eight games this season and is a joy to watch every time he steps onto the hallowed turf.
Robbie Ure (Scotland)
Former Rangers youngster, Robbie Ure is now applying his trade in the Spanish top flight at Sevilla. Since arriving in Spain, he is yet to register a goal but his performances have earned him the call up to Sebastian Pocognoli’s debut Scotland squad. Prior to their game against Switzerland tomorrow, Scotland fans will be hoping Ure can get Hampden Park roaring.
Rio Ngumoha (England)
Liverpool star Rio Ngumoha has been called up to Thomas Tuchel’s England squad after narrowly missing out on the World Cup in the summer. The young winger will be hoping to be given the chance to show his ability following the departures of players such as Cole Palmer from the squad.
Lennant Karl (Germany)
Lennant Karl broke onto the scene last season for Bayern Munich and registered sixteen goal contributions for the German champions. Unfortunately Karl missed out on the World Cup with a thigh injury, so he will be even more determined to show his ability on the international stage this autumn and keep himself in conversations with the likes of Lamine Yamal and Desire Doue.
